Sample and hold circuits are used in linear systems. In some kinds of analog-to-digital converters, the input is compared to a voltage generated internally from a digital-to-analog converter (DAC). The circuit tries a series of values and stops converting once the voltages are equal, within some defined error margin. It has been suggested that more is known about the Moon than the deepest parts of the ocean.[2] Little was known about the extent of life on the deep ocean floor until the discovery of thriving colonies of shrimps and other organisms around hydrothermal vents in the late 1970s. Before the discovery of the undersea vents, it had been accepted that almost all life on earth obtained its energy (one way or another) from the sun. The new discoveries revealed groups of creatures that obtained nutrients and energy directly from thermal sources and chemical reactions associated with changes to mineral deposits. These organisms thrive in completely lightless and anaerobic environments in highly saline water that may reach 300 °F (150 °C), drawing their sustenance from hydrogen sulfide, which is highly toxic to almost all terrestrial life. The revolutionary discovery that life can exist under these extreme conditions changed opinions about the chances of there being life elsewhere in the universe. Scientists now speculate that Europa, one of Jupiter's moons, may be able to support life beneath its icy surface, where there is evidence[3] of a global ocean of liquid water.

Day one was full of the almost.  It was all darkness, but within the darkness lied the fullest perfection and highest potential.  Awaiting the word. And when the word was spoken, with it came light.  Soon everything began to have a future. The past appeared too, and began it’s accumulation as another aspect of time; but it carried no regrets or foreboding. Because everything so far had been found to be good. 

So day one happened.  An early expression of God’s eternal love, yet given with full knowledge that his creation wouldn’t stay good.  But also given with full certainty that his own son Jesus would step up to make reconciliation for that.

Phase precession is a neurophysiological process in which the firing of action potentials by individual neurons is timed in relation to the phase of neural oscillations in the surrounding cells. In place cells, a type of neuron found in the hippocampal region of the brain, phase precession is believed to play a major role in the neural coding of information. John O'Keefe, who later shared the 2014 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for his discovery that place cells help form a "map" of the body's position in space, co-discovered phase precession with Michael Recce in 1993.[1][2]

The earliest human records legible, the Pyramid Texts of Egypt (c. 3000 B.C.E.), contain many prayers that are quoted from a far more ancient period, and it is apparent that the prayers were used in the texts as magical formulas and spells.

Afternoon Tea

This song goes back to two key experiences: The first one in summer 2005 when The German musician Herbert Grönemeyer sang the old German lullaby "Der Mond ist aufgegangen" for thousands of listeners without any accompaniment at the end of Live 8 in Berlin. And I think we were all so touched atmospherically that everyone had tears in their eyes. The second one was a Russian four-man band with barrel organ and harmonica as accompanying instruments on a Baltic promenade early summer 2018. They exuded such a longing for eternal love in their choral singing that my wife and I were completely overwhelmed by it and had to weep tears of wistfulness.

The following night I was inspired to create a love lullaby; and in it also to sing about the similarities of love and sleep: a complete release of all material attachments, a radical abandonment and surrender, and a permanent catchment in or of something I want to call all-embracing or eternal love.      
I would like to convey this basic message with this track: That eternal (some also say "spiritual") love itself continues to exist just when the world or perhaps even the whole universe goes down.

I dedicate the song to my  wonderful wife. After 20 years we have reached a great intimacy and deep familiarity with each other, which continues as an immortal love relationship even when the one separates from life before the other.

Ewige Zweisamkeit (Eternal Togetherness)

The Outer Ring is home to a vast and unexpectedly dense pocket of mixed gasses at the edge of the galaxy.  Chaotic electromagnetic currents have prevented star formation throughout the area leading to a starless view from within the nebula.  Known colloquially as The Perimeter, the region is ruled by a mysterious alien of unknown race by the name of Jal’Marzan.  Though previously a lawless sector of space rife with bandits and piracy, Marzan’s influence has grown to where his will can be considered the law.

A most interesting creature, Marzan appears to most, at first glance, to be a humanoid of some form.  Generally pale and with an often scaly or bark-like skin.  It is only through repeated meetings or further inspection that one comes to realize that his appearance is never that of his own.  But in order to understand that, one must first be familiar with Marzan’s flagship. 

At the core of Marzan’s fleet lies an immense and uniquely designed ship known as The Menagerie.  As its name would imply, the ship is home to the largest known collection of plants and animals in the galaxy.  It is aboard this ship that Marzan spends most of his time.

From boring oxygen breather to extremophile, deck after deck of the ship is packed with the various forms of life.  Thousands of species, both plant and animal, ranging from molds and fungi all the way up to large macroorganisms are kept aboard the ship at all times.  Most are contained in tightly controlled micro-biomes resembling their native habitats.  Other, more toxic and dangerous species, are housed separately for the safety of crew and specimen alike.

The entire ship is maintained by a swarm of genetically engineered crab-like creatures with large brains known as the Nerûb.  Although fully autonomous, the Nerûb are all connected to a massive neural network made of living tissue that is housed at the center of the ship, called The Keeper.  Charged with taking in data from all parts of the ship and scheduling tasks for the Nerûb to complete, The Keeper acts as both curator of the ship’s various life forms and as the brains of the ship.

One might find the very existence of this massive, living interstellar zoo to be incredible all on it’s own, and indeed it is.  But what is even more incredible is the ship’s actual purpose.  You see Marzan doesn’t maintain his stock of flora and fauna for mere entertainment.  Nor does he house these beings out of some altruistic need to harbor and protect the galaxy’s life.  Indeed Marzan needs his collection to form and maintain his outward appearance and functionality like some form of organic exosuit.

At any given time, Marzan’s “body” is composed of hundreds, perhaps thousands of individual lifeforms or parts of their bodies.  Not merely stitched together like some kind of ancient Frankensteinian horror, each part seems to form a whole under the control of that which lies at the heart of Marzan.  Some things might be as benign as a peculiar moss in place of his hair, other parts of his outward appearance are clearly attached, at times, in a parasitic nature like that of a leech.  

While the entire operation might initially be seen as the galaxy’s ultimate exercise in vanity, and it undoubtedly is, it has nonetheless served him well during his ascension to ruler of the ring.  It is no mere coincidence that his influence has grown as vast and strong as it is now.  In dealings of diplomacy, Marzan is often able to tailor his appearance and mannerisms to those which his counterparts would find most appealing.  And though he generally presents to others as male, if it were to gain him an edge in a deal, he might appear as female or even androgynous instead.  In this way, he has been able to largely unite the various clans and factions that had previously been at each other's throats in the ring.

Nirvāṇa is a term found in the texts of all major Indian religions – Buddhism,[19] Hinduism,[20] Jainism[21] and Sikhism.[22][23] It refers to the profound peace of mind that is acquired with moksha, liberation from samsara, or release from a state of suffering, after respective spiritual practice or sādhanā.[note 2]

The idea of moksha is connected to the Vedic culture, where it conveyed a notion of amrtam, "immortality",[27][28] and also a notion of a timeless, "unborn", or "the still point of the turning world of time". It was also its timeless structure, the whole underlying "the spokes of the invariable but incessant wheel of time".[note 3] The hope for life after death started with notions of going to the worlds of the Fathers or Ancestors and/or the world of the Gods or Heaven.[27][note 4]

The earliest Vedic texts incorporate the concept of life, followed by an afterlife in heaven and hell based on cumulative virtues (merit) or vices (demerit).[29] However, the ancient Vedic Rishis challenged this idea of afterlife as simplistic, because people do not live an equally moral or immoral life. Between generally virtuous lives, some are more virtuous; while evil too has degrees, and either permanent heaven or permanent hell is disproportionate. The Vedic thinkers introduced the idea of an afterlife in heaven or hell in proportion to one's merit, and when this runs out, one returns and is reborn.[30][31][32] The idea of rebirth following "running out of merit" appears in Buddhist texts as well.[33] This idea appears in many ancient and medieval texts, as Saṃsāra, or the endless cycle of life, death, rebirth and redeath, such as section 6:31 of the Mahabharata[34] and verse 9.21 of the Bhagavad Gita.[35][36][note 5] The Saṃsara, the life after death, and what impacts rebirth came to be seen as dependent on karma.[39]

The liberation from Saṃsāra developed as an ultimate goal and soteriological value in the Indian culture, and called by different terms such as nirvana, moksha, mukti and kaivalya. This basic scheme underlies Hinduism, Jainism and Buddhism, where "the ultimate aim is the timeless state of moksa, or, as the Buddhists first seem to have called it, nirvana."[40]

Although the term occurs in the literatures of a number of ancient Indian traditions, the concept is most commonly associated with Buddhism.[web 1] It was later adopted by other Indian religions, but with different meanings and description (Moksha), such as in the Hindu text Bhagavad Gita of the Mahabharata.[20]
