Here is a playlist containing my acoustic guitar music written for three guitars. It is a great form to use three guitars, having the ability to enrich the harmonies, rhythmic exploration, enable large intervals, add a bed for a lead solo, etc. Much in the vein of the guitar greats Paco de Lucia, Al Dimeola and John McLaughlin, who teamed up to form a great guitar trio, but also in my appreciation for the Assad brothers, and younger players like Samuelito and Boyer, amongst many others celebrating to this day the marvellous sounds of multiple acoustic guitars.
This playlist will grow through time as I like to keep exploring this trio form.

COLORS OF SUMMER

Although my Short Tales album is out, I still keep making these trio acoustic guitar pieces. This one I initiated just after the release and finished just now after rearranging and adding segments. It explores different Latin inspired rhythms, the time signature could either be 95 bpm or double that depending on the section. 
In my mind these sounds here recall summer moods and feelings, some uplifting, some more melancholic.

I've remixed to my taste their original studio stems (drums & keyboards), adding my own vocals, guitars & more... hard recommendation of headphones again !!

Lyrics are from another of my ancient poems, where I played with oxytone & eproparoxytone rhymes (translated below but with lost effect in English).

Tardigrade & Tattlesnakes (with Graphics on Televisions)

"The Scent of Wood and Resin"
This one I dedicate to all great guitar builders. Just two weeks ago I bought a brand new Spanish guitar by Luthier Joan Cashimira, model 145, 100% handmade in Spain, with a Solid Spruce top and Cocobolo back and side. These wood types give this guitar an amazing tone and an incredible timbre. I hope to express that here in this piece, that I wrote on this beautiful guitar. It is loosely based on a flamenco style called Granaína, originating from Granada. It was originally danceable, but now has been freed up in its rhythm, is much slower, and is usually only sung or played as a guitar solo, reflecting its Arab-Moorish heritage more strongly than other fandangos. The end section takes it more into the direction of a duo, although the backing guitars have been double tracked making it actually a trio. Some of you that know me will hear the influence of the guitar trio, most likely from the period of Passion, Grace and Fire.

Special thanks to Theo Jacobs for suggesting to change the title into Spanish: "El Perfume De Madera Y Resina" (The Scent Of Wood and Resin").

El Perfume De Madera Y Resina - Granaína | Dan Van Den Berg

This is my complete album "Beeswax Kiss", first released to an unsuspecting world in 2002. It's an eclectic mixture of didgeridoo and electronic instruments which, as it turns out, is deeply unpopular with my dog. After a huge run of 32 sales, it's finally dawned on me that nobody else is going to buy it, so I'm putting it here for free. Enjoy.

Chaos...Et peine sans fin

Nocturnal | Under the Blood Moon

This is a flamenco oriented solo guitar instrumental that I mainly played and came up with late at night during several September days. Then on the 16th of September there was this unique phenomenon of a Blood Moon, being a lunar eclipse combined with a “supermoon”. I felt it appropriate to name this one after the Red Moon. 
This one basically has three sections, an introduction in the form of a Petenera, a moderately fast Bulería and the Outro returning again to the Petenera. 
The Petenera is a flamenco palo in a 12-beat metre, with strong beats. It is identical with the 16th century Spanish dances zarabanda and the jácara. It has a solemn quality that I think is fitting to the mood of a Nocturnal, a night song.
The Bulería part I did is different in harmonization from a regular bulería. I transposed the root note to a low F# to have different chord solutions allowing deep open bass strings to ring against high placed chords, high up the guitar neck.  It gives extra resonance combined with brilliance of tone.
I used a lot of the authentic flamenco percussion here, hand claps, cajón and dance paces, and actually have the Petenera and Bulería overlap in some parts.

So without further a due, I am happy to present to you this solo guitar piece recorded with my new flamenco negro guitar. I sincerely hope you'll enjoy it and as always appreciate your comments, likes and shares!

This one is a special tribute to Jamie Rhind https://soundcloud.com/jamie-rhind. Jamie was one the first ones to really take notice on SoundCloud, or anywhere on the web for that matter, of my playing and music. He is generous in giving all the musicians he regards highly a spot in the lime light of his many, many songs and jams. He has a vast catalogue of Jazz, Blues, Fusion, Latin, Jazz Rock, Reggae, and many more styles and there is often ample room for those willing to collaborate. 

In my personal catalogue of tunes he holds a prominent position on some of the very highlights, playing his keyboards. Jamie made this composition, The Journey, as a collaboration for the two of us. His original, unreleased track is an elegant Latin Jazz composition with a lively double bass part, exiting drums, the most elegant Rhodes melodies and sprinkled with a lushious string section. We will soon feature this track with some of my guitar playing added. However Jamie deserves a tribute, for we have had great times working on many song together, he has always been the greatest support... So this one is for you buddy!

For my love, my valentine ...

Here is a new flamenco nuevo guitar piece I made for her in the style, or Palo in flamenco, of Alegría. The word Alegría literally means "joy", although in modern flamenco you can often hear it with a more melancholic nature. So is this one, a little tone poem of love.

It has two main themes that are played by two guitars which hint on the music of two favorites of mine, both from completely different styles of music, one is Vicente Amigo and second, more recent, a prog rock band called Soup (crazy name but some fantastic melancholic music, do check them out).

Painting a vivid picture in music.
In this track I explore the link between the flamenco style or palo of Tangos and the more Argeninian Tango. Although being linked in name they are very different. A Tango flamenco is more closely linked to the rumba flamenca. Its rhythm is the same as farruca and very lively. The Argentine tango shares a common ancestor, but went its own way. However, it was fun developing the transition between styles. I do that by a dramatic interruption in a Solea por Buleria. It repeats three times with the outro slightly different from the intro and interlude. 
I play three guitar parts here, one in flamenco finger picking style, the others more like the guitar trio with an alternate picking style.

Two Sides of a Story, Part 2 : Tale of the Wind


As part 2 of my former release this track is an acoustic instrumental played on my trusted and beautiful cocobolo wood flamenco negro guitar. I hope to catch some atmosphere of the days of winter, moodful, winds surrounding our house, with gusts and occasional beams of light perforating the darker skies.

Zero Hour: Nocturnal

This track came out of my recent re-appreciation for the stunning music of Astor Piazzolla. 
Being a guitarist I was influenced by many players that have translated Piazzolla's music to guitar. His music was adapted for guitar by request of the Assad brothers, for whom he wrote a guitar Suite. Later Al Di Meola adapted the tango and Piazolla to his guitar music and recently Dominic Miller on his Absinthe album gently hints on this familiar sound using a Bandoneon for melody. I love the romantic and dark atmosphere in the Tango Nuevo of Piazzolla. His best work, in his opinion, was Zero Hour, an album I was mesmerized by when it was released. Hence the name for this track...

It is free in form, sometimes it flows into new sections to another times abruptly switching. I play all three parts with a main solo part that regularly is improvised. 

The title is a nod to the famous guitar trio... ;)

This site is for my musical avatar or alter ego. Architect/partner/company owner by day, I find myself playing guitar and writing these tracks in afterhours, at nights, evenings, when in need of a dose of guitar sounds. You will find a wide range of guitar oriented music, ranging from Jazz to Blues, Flamenco to Classical, Rock to Fusion. And many collaborations with some great musicians.

I have been playing guitar since I was 11 years old, largely self-taught and have tried different styles and instruments: Renaissance lute, flamenco guitar, classical guitar, steel string guitar and electric guitar with which I have been playing in styles ranging from rock and metal in my early years to classical music, some American Folk music, jazz rock, prog rock, flamenco nuevo and fusion.

It’s been a splendid time here so far, in collaborating with a lot of brilliant musicians on SoundCloud and sharing ideas and the passion for music. 
My collaborations are with musicians that I have a deep respect for and have a mutual appreciation for real instruments, and musical styles that focus on letting the instruments “shine”.
