<p>Label boss Christian Smith brings the pain with this twofold attack, showing yet another facet of the evolution of his sound.<br />
 The spacious stabs get things going on &#8220;Delivery&#8221;, in combination with a persistent bassline and spoken-word samples reiterating the title. However, it&#8217;s the frantic snares that creep up on us which steal the show and kick things up a notch or ten.<br />
 On &#8220;Matrix&#8221;, Mr. Smith (no pun intended) takes a more mystical turn, again filled with percussive elements, but letting enough room for hi-register chords to take control until the end of the affair. Chords that almost create a nostalgic vibe, without, however, sacrificing any of the drive.</p>

Drumcode continues its commitment to releasing the scene’s most cutting-edge techno. With releases this year already from Adam Beyer, Pig&Dan, Alan Fitzpatrick, Dense & Pika and Julian Jeweil, this July see’s the return of Enrico Sangiuliano with ‘Astral Projection’.

After his remix of Moby’s of ‘Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad’ back in November last year, Enrico sought creative inspiration from his travels, transcending that into his productions and long studio sessions during the winter months. The result brings a mind and body melting release from the Italian producer.

The title track ‘Astral Projection’ is a captivating, big room techno masterpiece. Deep reverberations punch alongside a sinisterly crisp percussive drive. Launching into a groove laden synth modulation of low end textures, it breaks down into an ethereal amalgamation of pads and synths before the vocal launches, taking this track to another level.

‘Blooming Era’ has destructive dancefloor intent. There is no holding back with the low end synth modulation which Enrico has mastered to perfection. A tightly woven percussive flare moulds flawlessly with the rolling oscillations of the beast of this track.

If you have seen label head honcho Adam Beyer playing anywhere on the globe in the last 5 months, this has been a peak time favourite. Road-tested to the max, and with much success.

Mainz duo Teenage Mutants explore the dark side of melodic techno in their Running EP, with Bulgarian tech house patron Metodi Hristov as guest remixer.

A power packed anthem, Rising uses an undulating bassline to map out rhythmic patterns, while looming synths add a raw feel to the overarching melody.

Title track Running unveils an arpeggio-heavy construction, as drum sequences build up an abstract melody, in a nervous rhythm that moves through a cavernous space brimming with sonic flares and distant synth echoes.

Metodi Hristov rewires Running, administering a dose of rolling, groove-driven electro to this unapologetically compelling slice of techno. The artist operates frenzied percussion and irregular synth layers that all come together in unison for repeated, slow burning yet effective breakdowns.

Swedish DJ/Producer Christian Nielsen debuts on Maceo Plex's Ellum imprint with the ‘Love Struck’ EP this May.

The four track EP continues a strong start to 2020 with releases from Raxon and Avision and, true to the label’s form, is all about weighty, characterful cuts from Nielsen, an artist who has previously chalked up releases for the likes of Kompakt, Of Unsound Mind and Play it Down.

The titular opener of ‘Love Struck’ is a swaggering, low slung affair with a growling bassline underpinning a pitch shifted vocal refrain and piercing rave stabs - a mutant beast which fuses techno, Garage and rave aesthetics in anthemic style. The skeletal rhythms and gritty acid flair of ‘For Myself’ follow in a track that, through some nifty builds, manages to pull off a big room energy as much as it does a basement vibe. ’Switch’ is next up and, with a rock solid groove, vocal sample and subaquatic tones, displays just how well Nielsen can create a monster with few elements. The heaviest track, ‘Pulse’, rounds off ‘Love Struck’ with a huge, padding kick drum and resonant percussive lead doing the heavy lifting while counterpointed by judiciously employed warm, cossetting jazz flute licks

Mother Recordings continue to hype their new Superfett Records sister label as an essential force. This one comes from Rawthentic, Strictly Rhythm regulars Shermanlogy from Amsterdam and Dirtybird ́s local Tim Baresko from Wannehain. The Dutch French connection teamed up for two brilliant Tech House bangers.
The title track „The Sound“ is a big, full flavor and chunky Tech House cut with barrelling drums and whirring synths. It’s got the iconic vocals of Shermanology ́s female singer and team member Dorothy up top and plenty of dynamic unique sounds that add to the energy and buzz of the tune.
On the flip is „Shoot Me“, another huge club banger with low slung bass, a crazy fiery catchy vocal to sing along which is effected to the madness and dope acid lines all adding up to a real party starter, fire!

A rare treat for Drumcode faithful: A-Sides Vol.10 is set to drop in December, the second edition of the beloved series to come in 2020.

Fuelled by the extra time and space to be creative during lockdown, Drumcode’s collective of artists have stepped up. Across 17 contributions, the producers have gone deeper into their sonic repertoire, crafting powerful, yet reflective works that capture the range of the label’s sound.

Jay Lumen leads the way with a rousing riff-driven weapon, ‘Galactic Rainbow’, while Ramon Tapia brings us the muscular gem ‘Drum Control’, mixing up ruffneck techno with a barrage of synapse-tickling synths in the second half. Both rousing highlights of the compilation.
Victor Ruiz, Drumcode’s most prolific contributor in 2020, dishes up ‘Love Story’, led by a huge vocal lead. Zimmz also returns with ‘Tension’, which deftly combines deep squelchy grooves with a silky synth interlude. Thomas Hoffknecht follows up his debut on Vol.9 with ‘Escape’, keeping listeners on their toes with dynamic, choppy shifts throughout. Veerus joins with another stirring addition ‘I Know’, reinforcing why Beyer rates him so highly.

Elsewhere a string of debutants feature: buzzy newcomer Lilly Palmer gives us ‘Amnesie’, a brilliantly pummelling and eerie cut; Alex Lentini & Stomp Boxx serve up ‘Expanders’ mixing up drone effects, trippy vocals and an unsettling melody line; and Patrik Berg’s ‘Activated’ is full-bodied techno that drops down into funky rhythms.

Long-time DC family member Bart Skils brings his A-game with the thrilling no-nonsense ‘Solid State’ that hits like a steam train. Likewise, Alan Fitzpatrick who brings a momentous slab of techno energy with ‘Rochus’, while Thomas Schumacher, now feeling like a regular on the imprint, crafts another dark techno opus, this time in collaboration with CAITLIN.

There’s even a special appearance by the chief Adam Beyer, who makes a welcome return with the progressive-tinged ‘Changes’, driven by organic tones and spacey atmospherics. The track stands as his first original contribution to A-Sides since 2017.

The French artist Hayden F can look back on long DJ career and has been producing music for 7 years.

He was resident in the club La Factory and in the Inox Club and has played at the prestigious Mutek festival in Barcelona in 2020.
His approach is not to pre-defined but the tracks are written in the course of experimenting with sound and energy.

As he says in his own words: „I approach my compositions with care, and a lot of room for experiment. I always look for dualities in my tracks between somber deep power and clarity / positive energy. It defines what I am, and translate the emotions that are part of me and the
world that I am living in. Each instrument is a key piece in the story I tell: it evolves, it is alive, and above all, it is true. I use a lot of LFOs on many parameters, because I need some part of the music to be out of my control, random, sometimes chaotic, as life can be.
I want my music to be constantly evolving without ever losing its vibrant energy. It will be deep, sometimes hard, sometimes emotive, and often both. It will always be sincere and personal.“

His EP for Trapez kicks off with "Abstract Movement" a raw industrial sounding acid tune with no stunts, switching the machines „on and off“ for some stop and go feeling.

"Dynamic Peace" builds on more depth with a composition of melancholic melodies and is made to put some goose skin effect to the dancer on the floor.

José Diogo Correia aka Re:Axis has remixed "Dynamic Peace" and kicked out the melody and made it a massive rhythmic affair relying predominantly on drums with little reference of the original. Instead he plays with the synergy and energy which is generated in between the lines.

"Decompression" again picks up on Hayden F’s melodic side and combines it with some sick sequential sounds to show progression.

"Smile When You Think About Me" is the bonus track of the EP and is sort of an intro or outro track whatever you would like to call too. It connects feeling wise to a 4:00 minute heaven like sound before the kick drum goes to work.
