Disquiet Junto Project 0604: Heaven’s Gate 

I used a video on YT as a live score.

I divided the screen into 5 parts.
Each part is linked to an instrument channel.
Every time a cloud enters or leaves one of the 5 areas it activates a trigger/gate.

1)	Guzheng/Percussion kit
2)	Harp Harmonic - wood
3)	Prepared Kalimba
4) 	Percussion kit 2
5)	Contrabass col legno

As sound binder I used a loop generated by Reaktor (TG-8H Live by Rick Scott)

The track is a very mechanical walk, created by generative sequencers. The sounds, as in recent times, are percussive / acoustic.
Ergo very short sound envelope in order not to saturate ears and acoustic field.

Different approaches - 'alternate routes' - for this Disquiet Junto contribution include creating a loop in FL Studio (which I rarely use and I also rarely use a straight continuously looping loop), using the wonderful apesoft iVCS3 iPad app for the mad whistling barking Synthi track (rather than the also-but-differently-wonderful Arturia plugin), and making good use of the amazing MeldaProduction MMorph (which I should definitely use more) ... The results are beautifully unusuaL, though, if a little crazy ... hope you can still enjoy!

I often work with arpeggiators, and I like to combine their kinetic, steady pulse with ambient parts, rubatto and floating.I particularly like to add acoustic "real" instrument to and icy electronic arpeggiator synth. I do like all those contrasts : rhythmic vs floating, acoustic vs electro, tense vs relaxing cold vs warm etc

Here I had an old , unused acoustic Indian Harmonium improvisation, played rubatto, no tempo, no click.
I tried to add more floating tracks, a fretless bass melodic impro, some string samples, etc but still didn't quite go nowhere..A menacing, repetitive and obsessive ARP could save the track, I thought.

So I tried to add a tempo-sync arppeggiator, but it was difficult to find a right tempo for the ARP track, rhythm that makes sense with the ambient pace. To make it worst, the Harmonium did start to play a more rhythmic bit around the 01:53 mark, and the rhythm didn't quite fit. Tried many different tempos and mixes, this is what I got Friday 6th October 2023 in the morning, before I have to abandon this and go to work..

Disquiet Junto Project 0616: Definition Jam
The Assignment: Explore, in music, the nuanced differences between two closely related words.

Step 1: Think of two words in any single language of your choosing that mean “quiet.” For example, in English you might choose from “quiet,” “silence,” “hush,” and “tranquil,” among others. (Alternate: You could choose any base word for this project. “Quiet” is simply a recommendation. You might, instead, choose two words that mean “noise,” or something else entirely. Given the nature of this project, it may be best to choose a word related to sound.)

Step 2: Spend time coming to understand the nuanced differences between the definitions of the two words you selected in Step 1.

Step 3: Think about how you can render, through sound, the two different definitions, based on the thinking that you developed in Step 2.

Step 4: Record a piece of music that begins with the sonic rendition of one word and morphs slowly into the other.

Disquiet Junto Project 0618: Burying the Lede
The Assignment: Turn old news into new music.

Step 1: Locate an old news article, the less dramatic perhaps the better, from roughly 50 years ago. Try to find something local to where you live now or have lived.

Step 2: Use a text-to-speech tool to convert the article to audio. There are numerous such software applications, and no doubt discussion in the Junto thread on llllllll.co 1 will yield suggestions should you require one.

Step 3: Set to music the voice recording that resulted from Step 2. A length of two and a half to five minutes is recommended. Use an article sufficient to that length — you may end up not using the entire text. As the piece goes on, have the voice slowly get subsumed by the music, until by the end the voice is no longer intelligible — perhaps not even audible.

Note: In case the word isn’t familiar, a “lede” is “the opening sentence or paragraph of a news article, summarizing the most important aspects of the story.”

In some words:
Composer, arranger, producer, multi-instrumentalist. Born in Argentina,
I studied music in Buenos Aires, New York, Boston, Los Angeles and Paris.

For 20 years, I developed an important career as a session and backing musician in Argentina and Europe, playing, among other instruments, the bass, touring and recording with many jazz, rock, fusion, world, Latin and tango bands.

At the same time, I worked as an arranger, producer and musical director with many projects and artists in the USA, Argentina and Europe.

From 1992 to 1997, I performed my compositions live with my own band in Buenos Aires and began a solo recording career with the worldwide release of my first album "The Years Alone" on the North American label Green Linnet/Xenophile. On this album I arranged and performed 11 of my songs written between 1986 and 1993. I played most of the instruments, but included guest appearances by some great South American players.

My recording career continued with "Segundo Ciclo" (1997), released worldwide by Timeless Records, and 12 more albums released between 2000 and 2016.

Currently, I work as an on-demand film/TV composer while continuing to play live and produce.

My 33 1/3 series book about the Aphex Twin album <i>Selected Ambient Works Volume II</i> was published in 2014. The book was one of the top 5 bestselling titles for the calendar year, and in 2015 was ranked by Pitchfork as one of the "33 best" of the 100-plus books in the 33 1/3 series. It has subsequently been translated into Japanese (2019) and Spanish (2018)

Since 2012 I have moderated the Disquiet Junto group, which began on SoundCloud. More at disquiet.com/junto. 

I've written for Nature, Pitchfork, The Wire, Down Beat, Boing Boing, NewMusicBox, Red Bull Music Academy, Art Practical, the website of The Atlantic, and many other publications.
