Disquiet Junto Project 0590: Concrète Roots 
The Assignment: Make music combining field recordings and feedback

I was in Paris and brought my recorder along. Our hotel was right outside of Gare de l’Est. The little four note tune that’s at the start of the French Railroad service announcements was in the room about every two minutes, and so became somewhat emblematic of the trip. Also, there was this fluorescent tube light in the hotel bathroom that had a… je ne said quoi. Perhaps it’s the sound of arriving in a work place — a garage, storage space or studio — in the very early morning, still dark, at an hour when no one who has any choice in the matter is not in bed, everything quiet, all alone, and then this tingling, almost glitchy tone as the lights come on. You don’t see/hear them as much as you used to. 
So those recordings, together with a recording of a departing train, became the basis of this track.

The field recordings are accompanied by a feedback part, which was inspired by things I read in the llllllll cybernetic music thread: https://llllllll.co/t/cybernetic-music-roland-kayn-feedback-systems-ai/40635. 
I suppose it is a take on work by Jaap Vink. The audio signal goes into a delay, is then sent through some effects (in Vink’s setup, a ring modulator and a filter, if I recall correctly), then a reverb, and then sent back to the input, with some form of attenuation that is controlled by an envelope follower. The result is an audio signal loop that keeps its feedback in check automatically.
In my case everything was made on an iPad, which is surprisingly good and versatile for creative audio routing. Instead of a ring modulator, I used an app that has a bunch of resonators that you can actually ‘play’ using a keyboard: playing a note on the keyboard will activate the resonator tuned to that note. Playing the resonators subtly shifts/nudges the feedbacking audio into different parts of the frequency spectrum (in a way that is roughly analogous to what the ring modulator and filter do in Vink’s setup).

I built a patch in kontakt consisting of two voices that seemed to compliment each other and ran a simple midi pattern triggering both. There's a lot of texture and hiss, maybe too much but hopefully others might find some use in this. Feel free to chop, mangle or do what you like with this one, just make sure i get to hear it!

Disquiet Junto Project 0599: Minimal(ist) Blend
The Assignment: Make a piece of music that combines self-contained minimalist parts.

For this submission I started with percussions and wanted to use my modular for sequencing, but I changed my plans and decided to do it with Ableton and my Zoom H5 instead.
Since I play bass as a main instrument this time I decided to explore the higher part of the spectrum of frequencies. 
I started recording seven loops (parts) using different instruments: a cuban clave, a home-made shaker, a singing bowl, a pair of Tingsha (tibetan cymbals), bamboo sticks, some sheep bells and an african metal rattle. Ended up with something that reminds me of the hidden life in a meadow, a wood or a small pond, thus the title Microskopios. 

I started with a simple clave rhythm in 15/8 subdivided 4+3+4+4 at 101.96 BPM and heavily processed it. Pitched it up 36 semitones and then sculpt it with EQ, Compressors, Lagrange, Grain Strain, Echo and Void.
I then recorded bamboo sticks hitting them with the clave while they were on the floor following the 4+3+4+4 division, pitched them down 24 semitones and processed with Phaser, Slink Pan and Springs. 
Then I improvised some patterns with the home made shaker and the metal rattle. 
The shaker is pitched 31 semitones down, panned 10L and has Erosion, Saturator, Ego and Romb as effects. 
The rattle is modified with Corpus, GongAmp, Filterjam and ValhallaPlate. It's paned 30R.
I added the singing bowl and tingsha at the end. 
Singing bowl is split into two channels, one without effects, panned 25L 25R and the other panned 25L, pitch shifted down 24 semitones and processed with GrainSpace and Chorus-Ensemble.
Tingsha is just effected with a little bit of GrainSpace.

This was fun. This is mostly a quick sample of a percussive 4//lIGhT's 60 bpm Stomp bit, repeated excessively, with a tiny guitar-sounding bit from @tristan_louth_robins 's Refactored Drift. Filled out with @XHG 's Acrostic Speed Limit and some from a 4th one, but I forget.

Instructions:

Step 1: In the previous Disquiet Junto project, participants recorded a variety of tracks at a standard pace of 60 BPM. Listen to the resulting material on the Lines discussion board and the SoundCloud playlist:

Step 2: Select two or more tracks from the provided ones, slow them to half their original pace — that is, to 30 BPM — and use editing techniques to combine them into one new piece of music.

The Assignment: Record the first third of a trio.

Please note: While this project is the start of a three-part sequence that will unfold over the course of three weeks, you can participate in any or all three of those parts.

Step 1: This week’s Junto project is the first in a sequence intended to encourage and reward collaboration. You will be recording something with the understanding that it will remain unfinished for the time being. Your part will be done, but more will happen. Read on.

Step 2: The plan is for you to record a short and original piece of music using any instrumentation of your choice. Conceive the piece as something that leaves room for something else — other instruments, other people — to join in. (Keep in mind that your piece would appear panned to the left in the finished recording, after three weeks.)

In some words:
Composer, arranger, producer, multi-instrumentalist. Born in Argentina,
I studied music in Buenos Aires, New York, Boston, Los Angeles and Paris.

For 20 years, I developed an important career as a session and backing musician in Argentina and Europe, playing, among other instruments, the bass, touring and recording with many jazz, rock, fusion, world, Latin and tango bands.

At the same time, I worked as an arranger, producer and musical director with many projects and artists in the USA, Argentina and Europe.

From 1992 to 1997, I performed my compositions live with my own band in Buenos Aires and began a solo recording career with the worldwide release of my first album "The Years Alone" on the North American label Green Linnet/Xenophile. On this album I arranged and performed 11 of my songs written between 1986 and 1993. I played most of the instruments, but included guest appearances by some great South American players.

My recording career continued with "Segundo Ciclo" (1997), released worldwide by Timeless Records, and 12 more albums released between 2000 and 2016.

Currently, I work as an on-demand film/TV composer while continuing to play live and produce.
