You could hardly make it through the door, let alone to the bar... From wall to wall, friendly faces both old and new talked hurriedly, making up for the lost time they'd spent sitting in their pants in front of the telly, longing for that first schooner. The music buzzed and excited voices rose and fell till the dreaded final orders arrived; you'd never leave here disappointed but you might not remember leaving at all...

Our favourite London boozer have taken their first steps into the label world with 'Gun Aid', a 14-track release featuring music from card-carrying members of the pub — it just so happens that the majority of their nearest and dearest double up as cracking producers and musicians too. Across the LP, you'll find contributions from Róisín Murphy, Ivan Smagghe and C.A.R, Nathan Gregory Wilkins and Quinn Whalley, and many more friendly faces who've regularly graced the pub over the years.

Ahead of the release of the full compilation, The Gun tease a four-track EP titled 'Time At The Vortex', which features tracks from Daniel Avery, Scott Fraser, Cherrystones and GLOK, with a portion of the proceeds going to Hackney Quest, a charity working with local families.

Sebastian Mullaert and Kontra-Musik have been involved in a love affair for quite some time – an affair that even resulted in an offspring called The Dance that came out on Kontra-Musik last year. Sebastian Mullaert is of course first of all known as half of Minilogue, a duo so influential in the hypnotic field of techno that Korg recently named a synthesizer after them. Lately, Sebastian has focused on his solo path under the Wa Wu We moniker, releasing stripped back and personal music on his own Wa Wu We label, the cryptic S.E.L.F label and now on Kontra-Musik.

On the title track Travellers, Sebastian Mullaert uses a straight up techno formula that may surprise listeners who haven’t followed his move into Wa Wu We territory. You almost get the impression Sebastian buried a recording destined for a rigid techno label in a deep forest back in the 90’s and has now decided to uncover it again, finding that the track has matured under the black soil. The sharp edges are now covered in smooth moss and the soundscape is immensely deep and moist. But it’s still a vibrant and very much effective track. Above all, it has loads of free space to let the listeners make up their own journeys as travellers into the world of sound created by Mullaert.

We float, on the flip side, is a beautiful and meditative ambient piece. It’s also the fastest way for the urban dweller to find him or herself floating in a serene lake surrounded by strong, green trees instead of floating in a sea of stress and anxiety. A set of headphones and this new release from Kontra-Musik and you’re there.

Exclusive Toh Imago - La Napoule (Nathan Micay's Life In Every Breath Remix)

Berliner by choice and Torontonian by heart Nathan Micay, also known under his Bwana artist moniker under which he released on labels such as AUS Music or Fort Romeau's Cin Cin, took on remix duties for Toh Imago's track La Napoule, which was originally released on Toh's album Nord Noir last year. Just as the remix title suggests Nathan's approach breathes new life into the original as he delivers a less playful but straight to the point livable version that does not lose the original's character but emphasizes the lead-synth melody. In typical Micay-manner a more techno-esque bassline is added and gives the take a darker note, maybe a little Berghain/ Panorama Bar vibe, which symbolically stands for a more raw and unfinished approach at places, where the electronic music culture still has time and space to unfold its magic and sprinkle the same to its audience just like Nathan Micay does with every beat, with every breath of his remix to both, namely the scene and the Toh Imago's original.

Toh Imago's EP Nord Noir Remixes will be released on InFiné on March 6th, 2020.

Revered producer and composer Daniel Avery returns with a new album and live show, his most ambitious works to date. Channelling every corner of his sound, Tremor is a bold and transportive body of work through euphoric shoegaze, submerged techno, ambient soundscape and industrial bliss. It remains unmistakably Avery, yet dramatically evolved.


With the album Avery has welcomed an inspiring cast of collaborators, including the likes of Alison Mosshart (The Kills), Walter Schreifels (Quicksand / Rival Schools), bdrmm, Julie Dawson (NewDad), yeule, Ellie, Art School Girlfriend, yunè pinku, and Cecile Believe. Each artist leaves their indelible mark, yet the record’s true power lies in the communal spirit at its core.

“This is a living and breathing collective,” says Avery. “Since the earliest recordings, Tremor felt like a studio in the sky, a space in time through which we could all pass as artists”, he reflects. “It’s the welcoming spirit of acid house with the doors flung open wider still to allow in every influence from my musical journey: the warmth of distortion, the stillness inside intensity, the transcendental beauty of noise...
