Un Canadien Errant is a beautiful, traditional, French folk melody adopted by the Acadians. I adapted and arranged the instrumentation with snare drum, violin, and flute to reflect the history of the song and connection to Nova Scotian History. Antoine Gérin-Lajoie’s lyrics were informally adopted by the Acadians beginning in 1844, in the context of the Acadian deportation 1755-62.

My second collaboration with Jimena and Chris Kinsey.  The song began with a few chords played on a midi keyboard using ‘silky string selection’ in Logic to work out the structure.  I added Guitars, Bass and Drums and asked Chris to add some ‘Kinseyfication’ on Piano and Organ, then, it was over to Jimena to write the lyrics and record her amazing vocal tracks. Once I had all the constituent parts, I set about the final mix and mastering; this is the result.
A huge, huge thanks to Chris and Jimena for their outstanding contributions which have elevated the song to another level.

In retrospect, I know this remix is awful. I keep it around because it's a classic and still gets a bunch of plays every month.
This track, though not my intended final, has been widely accepted as the finished version and so it is!

And there the really deep rooted thoughts and meanings get their chance to rise to the surface and take over. In the contemplative world of the low lights and the general banter, the heart overcomes the brain and for a while you get lost in it, on that side of the line between real life and the one that got away..... Meeting @fadysporz on Soundcloud back in 2018 felt like a meeting of soulmates. There is a mutual respect for each other’s work and i wrote the track with room for Fadys heavenly synth work in mind and also with the idea that he joins Cindy and me in the vocal work. With Fady having the ability to ‘read’ the way of the songwriting and harmony construction it was effortless to work together - he is a fantastic musician. Thank you Fady for joining us here!

This one evolved a lot and kind of became a power ballad I think. It reflects the position some of the children of the world find themselves in and was inspired by a couple of excellent Irish charities and their stories. I hope it is meaningful it is meant to be, lyrics below.

For those that have occasion to think back on "the one that got away". Imagining that other person today, wondering what might have been and what has actually happened over the years since. This wistful, original song is done in traditional folk style with an Irish/Celtic feel. Let your guard down a moment and go with the contemplation, for better or worse, a brief indulgence as Saint Patrick's Day visits us once again...only to drown our lament and fancy in Guinness and whiskey. Many thanks to our good friend Don Hicks for his wonderful bagpiping on this song.

Here's a song about an army of corn marching on a town at midnight. (Hey, these things happen in Wisconsin.)
Main guitars on this are a Vintage Modified Stratocaster and a Gretsch 5622T. The combination of the classic Strat tone and the Gretsch's Super HiLotron pickups is a recipe I personally love.
A single from the upcoming Penelope's Thrill album, "Twilight on Tunnel Road," due out on April 26, 2021.
All the songs on "Twilight on Tunnel Road" are about Lonnie and Chloe, who grow up on adjacent farms on the edge of the Driftless Area of Southern Wisconsin. This song is about Chloe's recurring dream of a vast army of corn marching at midnight toward the town. Ever since she was a child, Chloe has dreamed about the billowing ocean of corn covering the undulating hills around their farmhouse--the tall, thick stalks that towered above her head with leaves that looked like arms. The way the corn swayed in the wind made the stalks seem like people, like an orderly crowd of people standing in rows, or--by moonlight--a vast army. She dreamed about this corn army, sometimes imagining herself their queen. When she grew older, she would joke with Lonnie about this. Lonnie would call her Queen of the Corn and refer to cornfields as her troops.
