‘Let The Big Beat Save Your Southern Soul’ is the new single by Tribes of Europe & Barbara Stretch, out 27th November 2020 via Integrity Records on all digital platforms and limited edition 7” vinyl.

Using classic pop forms to tell stories about the present, the future and, in the case of ‘Big Beat …’, the past, Tribes of Europe here surge head-long musically and lyrically into the contemporary cultural legacy of Northern Soul.  With the classic vocal of Barbara Stretch, former frontwoman of Pye Records’ soul sensations The Vernons to the fore, the Ely Fallen Angels Choir led by Max Taylor (MIKA, Lily Allen, Clor) add layers of joyous harmonies.

Tribes of Europe, the alter ego of Fenland-based multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Martin Elsey, are also joined by Andy Gangadeen (Massive Attack, Chase & Status, Jeff Beck) on drums, Ric Elsworth (Belle & Sebastian, Foals) on vibraphone & tambourine and Chris Taylor (Poison Girls) on co-production duties at Bluebarn Studios and the finest bass outside Motor City.

Martin describes the single as an overdue “thank you” to the rare soul scene and the people who made the music: 

“I was a young Pink Floyd fan when the Northern Soul scene hit East Anglia. Kids at school told me how their older brothers and sisters had been driving over to Peterborough, taking something called ‘Sulphate’ then staying up all night dancing. I was intrigued. Only several years later when I got along to a few all-nighters did I really start to understand …”

Eerie is the second track and probably the most talked about track off BaYaT's second album Purge and carries on from where the debut album So It Begins finished.
From the very start of Eerie you can hear the distinct BaYaT sound with beautiful melancholic harmonies mixed with some real hard rock riffs. The chorus will have you physically moving around the floor with its mouthwatering beat.

Between lockdowns Telemarkk delved deeper into their fascination with atmospheric synth pop, exploring dreamily layered arpeggiated tones and crisp defined drum sounds to ignite inspiration for their latest modern electro 80s synth pop banger. Drawing influences from artists such as ‘the 1975’ and ‘Chvrches’, 'Reflection’ explores the theme of patience to the point of realisation and the ability to let go when reflecting on past experiences.
