Back with his second EP on Truesoul after his impressive Kilimanjaro EP, dubspeeka has tossed out more attitude with his new Noise EP. Keeping in the similar dubspeeka trend, his Noise EP is dark and moody with interesting twists and turns to give this serious character. From the distorted Drums of ‘Noise’ to the melodic synth line of ‘Usk’ dubspeeka has delivered an outstanding piece of work that should be commended with the highest honour. The preciseness of his synths and vocal swirls separate this from other projects and shows the class and enigma that dubspeeka is capable of.

For a newly emergent producer, Ansome's sound is hugely confident. Inspired by a raw and urban UK techno lineage, his drums are heavyweight, his percussion fierce and his synths full blooded. All in all that makes for music that grabs your attention and drags you along for an enthralling ride. Littered with his own field recordings, it can be variously eerie or boisterous, but its uncompromising stuff of the sort anyone from Perc to Karenn would be proud.

With some vinyl releases this year, like SLAM001 and Penny & Pound, this British producer become more and more populair.

No nonsense French label Zone Records is back with another rugged techno four tracker, this time from close associate and well established production talent Maelstrom.

Opening up this EP is ‘Densil,’ the dark, textural broken techno track that has harsh claps, urgent siren sounds and a real sense of industrialism in its turbulent groove. ‘Fission’ is a more traditional acid track with gurgling 303 lines bubbling away above firmly planted, insistent kicks. Late night twinkles and a subtle paranoia characterise the murky atmospheres and it doesn't take much to imagine this one doing plenty of damage in the club.
The perfectly occult ‘Optical Tendencies’ is another experimental affair with lumpy drums, pixel thin synth patterns and more grumbling industrial fills. It is dystopian and dark, absorbing and brilliantly machine made. Lastly, the excellent ‘Oxy Blur’ has sluggish bass, swampy sounds and corrugated synths all slowly trudging along as pained stabs and bleak pads all add to the soot black intensity of it all.
This is smoky machine music for those with a penchant for post punk and a soft spot for the spikier end of the techno spectrum.

Fission

Deep in the mountains of rural West Virginia lies the largest steerable radio telescope on Earth. This telescope scans for radio signals emitted by solar cataclysms — or from extraterrestrials— in the fathomless expanse of space. “Mistaken” by Frank Found is ignited by the possibility of these returning signals. Produced live using modular synthesizers and analog drum machines, “Mistaken” takes you on a journey as sounds undergo an otherworldly evolution from beginning to end. Infernal or misunderstood, these alien signals evoke a wrath of distortion and relentless poundings of heavy kicks wreak havoc on any sound system. Be prepared. You have been warned.

Following last year’s breakthrough album “Tundra”, Lakker return to R&S with a very special new project.
 
Lakker were commissioned by the RE:VIVE Initiative to create a new conceptual work solely sampling field recording, TV and radio broadcasts from the Dutch National AV archive, The Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision. The curated material provided all related to and was representative of the theme the “Dutch and water”
 
The resulting 8 track release “Struggle and Emerge” is a tense soundtrack to the machine driven mid-20th century that captures the complex relationship between the Dutch and the water that surrounds them- unyielding, colossal, industrial. 
 
Broadcasts from the flood of 1953, which claimed over 1,800 lives and decimated the southern province of Zeeland are sampled in the gloomy “Open Clouds”. The contemplative “Broken Clouds” features a radio broadcast the day after the Nazis inundated the Wieringermeer Polder in 1945 in an act of desperation before retreating.
 
In order to combat the catastrophic power of the sea Dutch engineering has needed to go to equal extremes. On the album, the propulsive and dramatic “Reclamation” blaring “Ever Rising” and pummeling “Maeslantkering Gating” capture the sheer size, scale and power that is Dutch flood protection. Lakker gained inspiration from archival footage of the closing of the 32km Afsluitdijk, a man made barrier protecting the Netherlands from the vicious North Sea, a first hand visits to the futuristic engineering marvel, Maeslantkering and the never ending challenge of keeping the sea at bay. 
 
To gain insight into their topic, Lakker ventured on a tour around the Netherlands, meeting leading academic experts in the field. From the world’s premier flood defense department at TU Delft, to a professor of amphibious culture at the Free University of Amsterdam, to art historians and specialists on the ground; the duo were given first hand insight into the centuries long tumultuous relationship between the Dutch and the water.
