It started out as an original with the acapella as a placeholder vox, but eventually I started making the entire song to those beautiful vocals.. For nearly a decade, Tycho has been known as the musical alias of Scott Hansen, but with the release of Awake – his second LP for Ghostly International – the solo project has evolved into a three-piece band. Relating closer to post-rock than ambient soundscapes, the record is situated in the present, sounding more like Hansen than drawing from his influences. “This is, in many ways, the first true Tycho record.”

Following 2011’s Dive LP, the San Francisco-based designer toured extensively, and with a full band on stage, his sound coalesced into a percussive, organic whole. Zac Brown (guitars, bass) rejoined Scott on the road for this tour, but it was the particular addition of Rory O’Connor’s live drumming that ultimately sent Hansen back to the studio with a more precise vision. “After the tour, I decided that I wanted to capture the more energetic, driven sound of the live show on the next album,” Hansen recalls. Bringing musicians into Tycho’s creative process was a step towards expanding his own songwriting and advancing the project beyond its current sound.

In a cabin near Tahoe last winter, Zac and Scott began fleshing out the structure of the new record, but it wasn’t until they set up shop in the hills of Santa Cruz with Rory that it all fell into place. “It crystallized the vision of how the drums would come to the forefront on this record,” says Hansen. The sound was much more stripped-down and concise with more organic instruments in the fold. Songs like “Montana” and “Awake” are a departure from Tycho’s previous material – unique to the group effort poured into the songs on the new record – while “See” and “Dye” echo ideas from previous works, bridging a middle ground between the old and new. Working with Count Eldridge, who also engineered Dive, the team could fixate on the pulses that Tycho might previously layer under synthesizers and exhume them with distinct bass and guitar patterns.

Also known for his design work as ISO50, Hansen’s visual and sonic efforts have dovetailed throughout the course of his career. “This is the first time in my life I've dropped everything to focus on one artistic pursuit,” notes Hansen. Previous Tycho releases came to fruition when an amalgam of songs were nearing completion, but Awake is where music becomes the focus and true expression becomes the result.

The change while finding out new possibilities and ways can sometimes be hard, irritating and cause confusion with own, older values.  After people found informations they didnt knew before, they bump into people with out-dated informations which can cause conflicts as well. Thirdly, the conflict of what is right or wrong is playing a big role in our minds and causes a lot of trouble while deciding. As many different pieces of the puzzle we have to take care of, the solution will hopefully be a balance of all which is lead by the truth, responsibility and love.

This blance after the collision of the thought is mirrored in the Track collider which is with his breaky but very harmonic vibes, the soft changes and a tender melody, the perfect track to let thoughts collide and find the solution.

Gregory Esayan, a phenomenally gifted musician from Russia, has worked with Silk for a few years now. He recently achieved a breakthrough with a 3-track EP ("One Way Ticket", "Forever Child", "Ararat") on our Arrival division, easily his most supported and widely appreciated release to date. His latest single, "Starman", is a tribute to Yuri Gagarin, the first person to journey into outer space. 

A sparkling progressive breaks odyssey, "Starman" begins with clips of Yuri on his voyage. We also hear a variety of ethereal vocal clips and pads, which seem to reflect Yuri's awe-inspiring vision of the universe from outside the Earth's confines for the first time. A light breakbeat picks up steam, as starry synths and gorgeous piano melodies begin to paint vivid lead themes. The track deconstructs again in the main break, where the poignant piano evokes the great celestial splendor that Yuri was privileged enough to see with human eyes for the first time. The latter half of the track centers on a breathtaking theme, as the many midrange layers coalesce in beautiful harmony.

Croatian giant Tom Nucleus joins the family of Progressive House Worldwide with a truly uplifting gem called “Stellar”. This is one hell of a ride and if you are searching for something that will put a smile on your face, then you have it just around the corner.

With an eccentric and driving progressive production, filled with deep kicks and an etching melodic hooks, well, then you got it right here.

On remix duty we bring on the full artillery of talented names, with the Norwegian talent Proglifter returning to the label once more and delivering the first one in this package. With a long string of originals on our imprint, he now takes charge of the first remix with us at PHW. The outcome is fair to say something spectacular, as he put on a great drive in the track, still with elements that definitely will give you relaxing feel. It has a lovely groove and definitely bring on some new texture to the original idea. 

2nd up is a new name on our ever growing back catalog, as we are delighted to bring on the services of a producer we have been following for a while. Sollito, the Slovakian producer lately gained massive support from a string of the bigger names, with Above & Beyond leading the way playing him out on Group Therapy. Here he debut with us delivering some fantastic melodic work with his remix. Added on textures and creative melodic arrangements is making this “bad boy” fly from start to finish and we are certain that this lovely production is to rock a few feet around the globe.

Last out is a happy return from the Russian talent Skyline who once more proves he want to be a good part of this scene. With a driving, more trance influenced re-take, he definitely brings edge to the release and delivering something new on the release. It has such great pace and energy, and we do feel this is a great addition to all the other versions.

The incongruent sound of off-kilter percussive clicking ripples through melodic brilliance - Dan Sieg returns to a well-travelled Mango Alley, "Something's Not Clicking Right" creates a new aural pathway. Glorious sonic variation burns incandescent, the colour of fire bleeding through in abstract patterns against the clean angular white lines of metronomic beat, white-noise shaker and steam-powered effects. Motion-blur revealed in vivid shades and textured nuance.

A returning iconic figure generates a frisson of drama; an expectant audience filled with eager anticipation. Quivver makes his mark once again, firing with accustomed precision. Clarity of purpose and unrivalled techno credentials create an aural landscape of monochromatic beauty. Brilliant patterns coalesce from a trinity of distortion, reverb and delay as they pan across the stereo spectrum in dizzying glory. The infinite shades between black and white swirl in patterns and a bedrock of four/four beat is juxtaposed against freeform melodic interpretation that reaches its zenith before exploding in wall of mesmerising sound.

Australian flair combines with sonic beauty as Luka Sambe creates a new pulsating soundscape.
