This piece was composed for my dear uncle, Ken Hatt, the husband of my father's sister, Susan.  Ken passed away in December, 2012.  He glowed.  He was deeply kind and curious, and I remember him with a big smile on his face.  Satie's Gymnopédie #1 was one of his favorite pieces, and I wrote this fantasy for him a few weeks before he passed.  I wanted to write music *from inside* the beautifully simple sound world that the original piece creates.  I played the piece today at a memorial service for him in Victoria, B.C.

Refreshingly surprising, with an ever changing sound all her own, Dara Ackerman is an eclectic, indie singer-songwriter with a voice that opens the heart and touches the sky. Her songs are filled with unexpected turns, groove, depth and light.

Dara’s first album, Skyland, casts a net across her life-- from her departure from California, to seven years in the Himalayas and back again. Moving from longing and fear to insight and joy, she captures moments that have transformed her, and sends them flying. 

Dara works with Bay Area bands Scarth Locke, MacClain & Cole, Felsen, Jonah Matranga, Wa Ama Ni Um (Iamani I. Ameni), and artists Eric Oberthaler, Andrew Griffin, Peter Canton, Alexis Blaire, and Joanne de Mars. She has also worked closely with Los Angeles musicians Tommy Jordan, Danny Moynahan, Richard Fultineer, Austin Nicholson, The Happy Mediums, Superbroke Superheroes Brass Tin and Strings Marching Ensemble, and Santa Barbara artists Tom Lackner, Joe Woodard, James Connolly, Ellen Turner, Rob Taylor, and Glen Phillips. With the exception of a few, all of the above musicians, and more, appear on her album. Her chief collaborator and producer, Mark Moore of guruzero Productions, is based in Colorado and Northern India.
