2018 showed Da Real EKG an enormous amount of favor. In releasing his dynamic “Lit After 30” project, the flame-throwing emcee was quickly stamped as an underground, Alabama force to be reckoned with. Its sinister melodies and 808 heaviness, coupled with lethal, Dothan inflections, proved that the Southern Hip-Hop scene would be ushering in a new underground warrior, ready to lyrically annihilate any studio session that beckons him. Now, eight months later, he is picking up on the mark “Lit After 30” left, and forwarding it with the release of his latest hit effort, “Unusual”. An incredible expousal of dreamy, modern-trap, “Unusual” targets the man on the microphone; lyrically vivifying Da Real EKG for the very specialness he proved with his last LP. In three minutes, our Yellowhammer rapper swerves through colorful chords and pattering trap percussions in an expression of his “Unusual” artistry and character. He offers up magnificent stories and details about his life to further this point; which all culminate into a wise, heartwarming single. “Unusual” is a slight sidestep away from the energy that fulfilled “Life After 30”, however, that in and itself proves every word he speaks on the track.
