AM: What have ya been doing recently?

I worked on two different live shows ; an experimental quadraphonic
( I played it one week ago for the first time ), and an audio/visual with an artist using deep learning, I’m super excited about it ! 
And I continue to take time to watch my plants growing!
And to observe my thoughts.

AM: Where and how did you record the mix & was there an idea behind it? 

I recorded the mix : 60% in my bed, 20% on the deck, 20% in a fast train.
I was inspired by your name «  Accidental Meetings », it speaks to me... 


AM: What have you been listening to recently? Which artists are grabbing ya attention

AM: We’re such big fans of your releases so far :), from your incredible LP to the mixed bag of wonderful old tracks you self released last year, what’s ya studio set up & has it changed over the years? 

Oh thanks, I'm glad to hear that ! :)
For about one year my setup changed a lot ; new synths ( including the Virus B, and the GR1 ) , new pedals ( I think this is what I prefer to play with ) , a new drum machine ( the Yamaha RY30 ) .
I try to create with the same set up to give to my next music a common color !

Now that the earth is spinning again, I’m going to play.

Kindly mastered by Analogcut in Berlin, the music sees the contribution of Protofuture’s inmates Dj Fett Burger, Trent and Telephones on mixing and live percussion duties.

ciénaga is a DJ based between Seattle, WA and Elko, NV. Coming from a background in performance, he wields music as a tool to invoke the theatre of the mind. For his REDEFINE mixtape, he does just that. Using a combination of pitched down trance bangers, bass-laden tech house, and obtuse ambient thumpers, he carves pulpous textures and evokes the spirited play of shadows in the mind's eye. This mix is designed to be listened to on a long walk or while lying down in bed with your eyes pinched shut where you're free to imagine the convulsing vibration of your limbs on the dance floor. Not dissimilar to Denis Lavant in the closing scene of Claire Denis' film "Beau Travail," the mix becomes a meditation on the incongruent bedfellows of bliss and frustration bubbling beneath your eyelids and pores in a twisted dance that gestures the close of one chapter and the start of another.

It was commissioned by REDEFINE magazine (@redefinemagazine), an interdisciplinary publication dedicated to "conscious growth thru long-form arts journalism," in anticipation of LONGEST NIGHT: SOLSTICE CEREMONY 2020, taking place on December 21st, 2020.

For the second annual LONGEST NIGHT, Northwest Film Forum, Holocene (Portland), REDEFINE magazine, Crash Symbols Records & Seattle Documentary Association join forces to present five virtual rooms filled with music, movement, films, and meditation. Choose from five different Zoom breakout rooms of entertainment throughout the evening, each featuring a different thematic curation. Dax Pierson’s debut solo LP is coming via San Francisco’s Electronic powerhouse imprint Dark Entries Records and Oakland’s Ratskin Records collective. Pierson, an Oakland-based underground legend, has pushed the boundaries of experimental electronic music with his soul-moving opus Nerve Bumps; A Queer Divine Dissatisfaction, an endeavor two long years in the making. On Nerve Bumps, Pierson blends hip hop, jazz, John Carpenter-esque arpeggios, trap/anti trap-influenced percussion, and musique concrete-informed experiments. Futuristic synthesizers cut through layers of fog as Pierson’s bombastic drum programming forges new worlds within themselves.
Pierson tells a complicated and inspiring story on Nerve Bumps, which is both a privilege and a gift to experience. Tracks such as “I Slay The Pain” reiterate that although Pierson has to live his life as a quadriplegic, this does not define him as an artist or as a person. The cinematic  “For The Angels” plays as a masterclass in heart and body-moving rhythms and undulating synthesizers. Pierson directly confronts the listener on “Snap”, an act of solidarity with the disabled community. Sputtering orchestral swells become encapsulated by splintering shards of Pierson’s voice, evoking his relentless determination to learn new music production methods as well as share his experience with losing certain physical abilities. The album’s closing track, “NTHNG FKS U HRDR THN TM”, is a perfect distillation of the varied emotions explored on the album. Warm, heavy synths masterfully guide us down a psychedelic slope through the track’s twelve minutes. On Nerve Bumps, honesty, empathy, and humanity bleed through the speakers like a dark liquid just beneath the skin’s surface. For Pierson, music is his lifeblood, both as a creator and a listener. 
Nerve Bumps was mastered by George Horn at Fantasy Studios. The front cover features a painting of pink and green horizontal stripes by Pierson’s partner, artist Chuck Nanney. A photograph of Pierson’s wheelchair by Lenny Gonzalez graces the back sleeve. Dax’s guiding mantra throughout this journey has been a quote from choreographer Martha Graham: “No artist is pleased… There is only a queer divine dissatisfaction, a blessed unrest that keeps us marching and makes us more alive than the others.”

'Apparition Floor' is a set of musikal responses to excerpts to Giorgio de Chirico’s wild metaphysical novel Hebdomeros. It follows the protagonist Hebdomeros' journey through an enigmatic, sullen landscape of doorways, columns, gas lamps and blind windows. The sounds map the weird architecture and wonky lay of the land.
