Wolfsheim are a synthpop duo from Hamburg, Germany consisting of Markus Reinhardt (music) and Peter Heppner (lyrics and vocals). The band was founded in 1987 by Markus Reinhardt and Pompejo Ricciardi and was named after Meyer Wolfsheim, a fictional character from F. Scott Fitzgerald's novel ‘The Great Gatsby’.  Ricciardi soon left the band and was replaced by Peter Heppner, a childhood friend of Reinhardt's. Together they produced their first demo tape, “Ken Manage”, in 1988.

After making a second demo tape, “Any But Pretty”, in 1989, Wolfsheim applied at various labels until they caught the attention of independent record label Strange Ways Records. They are best known for their debut breakthrough single, "The Sparrows and the Nightingales”, the first single to be released on Strange Ways in 1991. The band's musical style takes cues from the 1980s New Romantics, new wave, synthpop, and darkwave. The track's sombre synths were produced by Carlos Peron of Yello. Reinhardt says the lyric was inspired by ‘The Great Gatsby’, "in the 'onomatopoeic tension' between predator and security."  Over six minutes, the narrator describes being lost, unsure of where his life is heading, using highly metaphorical language. On the flip is a brand new remix by German producer Ancient Methods, a pseudonym of Michael ‘Trias’ Wollenhaupt, who provides a driving, EBM-leaning, amphetamine-laced club ready cut.

All songs have been remastered for vinyl by George Horn at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley. Designer Eloise Leigh has updated the record's original design with two sparrows
enclosed in a blood moon circle against a deep black purple backdrop. Each copy comes with a black and white photo postcard notes by Carlos Peron and the song's lyrics. This release comes in time to celebrate the single’s 25th anniversary.

Halal Seven By Katzele

Raw M.T. graduates from Mörk to the Lobster Theremin main label with three thundering granite slabs of techno and house. 

The spirit of US house genres raises it's head once again, fuelled by a raw, scorched-earth production aesthetic coming from the deepest lair of the Italian producer. 

One Last Shot is a race-against-time, hyper-filtered acid techno epic. Thundering drum-work that rises from the ashes and and slams it's feet into the acid puddles of the bubbling 303. 

Sky makes it's appearance in it's Rough Mix form, coveting a much crunchier sound than the mysterious clean version and coming wrapped in analogue fuzz, with all arps set to kill and hats crushed into the ceiling. 

Lastly we get Richard's Revenge, a heaving, bleeping Chicago-meets-Detroit beatdown number that threads cosmic modular shots in a among through the drum-crushed haze. When those soaring strings hit, you know what's happening.

he Frozen Autumn is an Italian darkwave band, formed in May 1993 in Turin, Italy. Originally the solo project of singer, keyboardist and synth programmer Diego Merletto, guitarist Claudio Brosio joined on during early studio sessions and live performances. Together they recorded and released two albums, “Pale Awakening” in 1995 and “Fragments of Memories” in 1997. In 1998, Claudio left the band and Diego recruited Arianna (aka Froxeanne) who sings, programs and composes. After 18 months of work, The Frozen Autumn's third album, “Emotional Screening Device”, was released in April 2002.

“Time Is Just A Memory” is a 6-track overview of songs from The Frozen Autumn’s first three albums. Characterized by a blend of melancholic vocals, atmospheric gothic-wave and 1980s-style electropop, the duo call their style "frozen wave”. The Frozen Autumn have stated that labelmates Clan of Xymox have been their main source of inspiration over the years. Other influences include Dead Can Dance, Cocteau Twins, The Sisters of Mercy, Xmal Deutschland, David Sylvian and Depeche Mode. These six tracks stand out for their rich melodies, from the  guitar-laden early tracks “Dusk Is Like A Dagger”, “Wait For Nothing”, “There's No Time To Recall”, and “This Time,” to the  electronic sheen on later songs “Is Everything Real?” and “Silence Is Talking”.

All songs have been remastered for vinyl by George Horn at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley. The release is housed in a custom-made jacket by Peer Lebrecht, from German electro/synthpop band The Dust Of Basement, incorporating a photograph by Diego over a textured background that recalls early 4AD designs. Each copy comes with a double sided 11x11 insert with lyrics and notes.

A year after his last outing on the label, Gunnar Haslam is back on Delsin with four more tracks of idiosyncratic techno. Before Haslam has also released on LIES and Mister Saturday Night, and each time he does he finds new life and excitement in this most tried and tested form. 

Opening up this EP with the title track, Haslam cooks up a spangled brew of erratic synths and spinning hi hats and ties them together with a heavy rubber kick drum. Dynamic and restless, it is a perfect tune to freak out the floor. ‘Sarsi’ is then completely different, with a rippling synth line growing ever more intense as sombre chords stretch out behind. It is a beatless and emotionally forlorn cut that still manages to take you somewhere special. 

On the flip, ‘Sirenik’ gets back to deep dance floor business with a scale-climbing bassline and prickly hi hats all moving at an inviting pace. Scurrying alien sounds, distant dub chords and bouncy drums flesh things out and make for an emotional roller coaster before ‘Hellegat’ closes thing out in frenzied, Millsian style. As mad synths dart about like balls in a lottery machine, a creepy sense of tension builds behind and physical drums punch you down low. Each track here is different from the last, and each track here is a refreshing proposition from one of the most interesting guys around.

Dekmantel is thrilled to announce an exciting new project by the impeccable Robert Hood. Over the course of three EPs and one album, the Detroit legend presents Paradygm Shift. The first EP is scheduled for the 22th of February. Hood: ‘‘The idea behind Paradygm Shift is similar to a shift in our focus. We can become so complacent; we are so comfortable with our surroundings, I think this is the time for electronic music to find a new mindset.’’

Hood is thrilled about his new adventure on the Dekmantel label: ‘‘I’m glad to partner up with them on this project. I have a very good relationship with Dekmantel. I remember the first time I met them, how laidback these guys were. I performed in this illegal bunker, a dj-set, and the atmosphere was just amazing, awesome and open-minded. It seems like a natural progression to collaborate on this project now. We share a mutual responsibility not to let fall things just in place, but to make things happen. Dekmantel is about making things happen, and so like minds think alike.’’    

Inspiration for Paradygm Shift came from a shift in Hood’s own focus. ‘‘I have been busy with my Floorplan alias and reintroducing Monobox over the years, but at the same time I felt it necessary to reiterate Robert Hood as an electronic music artist who is bringing minimalism back in the forefront, and not to get lost in the melody. I want to get back to the simple repetitive programming that I’m known for, and to me it was returning to that, but shifting the listeners’ focus and not staying on this plane like we are used to.” 

This approach clearly manifests on Paradygm Shift Volume 1, the first EP that kicks of the series with great anticipation. Two tracks that have ‘Rob Hood’ written all over it: minimalistic beasts, bursting from energy and meticulously crafted by the hand of a master producer. ‘Form’ slowly but surely creeps upon you, a slow starter, but in the end the techno funk-finesse will roar like a Detroit car engine. ‘Lockers’ follows a slightly more melodic path, keeping the momentum by delivering body shaking, pulsating techno, deep and timeless just the way we like it.

Gilles Peterson-endorsed Bristolian, Typesun, makes his next chess move following on from a queue of primo productions over the last few years. "The PL", which featured the softly softly croons of an anonymous vocalist, was an undisputed 2013 jewel. "Water Song" was a swaddling pool of Latin loveliness; so good we had to take a dive ourselves. Now he's recruited MOBO-award winning jazz quartet Empirical’s Lewis Wright (vibraphone) and top guitar session player Miles James alongside a group of Bristol’s finest musicians for "Make It Right". Infused with smoke-tinted funk and pinned down by Typesun’s finely-honed production chops, it's the ideal mid-night foot-shifter.
