Elvin es una DJ turca, actualmente afincada en Berlín. Inició su trayectoria en Madrid, donde encontró inspiración en la vibrante escena de música electrónica española. Su desarrollo musical, desde melómana hasta convertirse en una presencia imponente detrás de la cabina, ha sido impulsado por su pasión, energía y talento natural para expresarse a través del sonido.  

Desde entonces, diversos clubes y colectivos musicales europeos han reconocido rápidamente su potencial y, en poco más de dos años, ha pasado por las cabinas de clubes destacados en Berlín, Holanda, Italia, Francia y Bélgica. Su sonido busca el equilibrio entre el techno clásico de Detroit y Reino Unido, y una música electrónica más innovadora que empuja los límites del género. Todo esto lo entrelaza con influencias del dub techno y sonidos orgánicos y tribales, creando una interpretación contundente pero conmovedora de la música electrónica.  

En esta ocasión, nos deleita con una sesión creada únicamente con producciones de mujeres, con el objetivo de dar visibilidad a aquellas productoras que aún no conocemos.

Elvin is a Turkish DJ currently based in Berlin. She began her career in Madrid, where she found inspiration in the vibrant Spanish electronic music scene. Her musical development, evolving from a music lover to becoming an impressive presence behind the booth, has been driven by her passion, energy, and natural talent for expressing herself through sound.

Since then, various clubs and musical collectives across Europe have quickly recognized her potential, and in just over two years, she has played at renowned clubs in Berlin, the Netherlands, Italy, France, and Belgium. Her sound seeks a balance between the classic techno of Detroit and the UK and more innovative electronic music that pushes the boundaries of the genre. She intertwines this with influences from dub techno and organic and tribal sounds, creating a powerful yet moving interpretation of electronic music.

On this occasion, she delights us with a session made exclusively with tracks by women, aiming to give visibility to those female producers we may not yet know.

Groovebox podcast series episode #41 with Darko Esser.

Darko Esser’s devotion to electronic music spans three decades. He has built his international reputation based in two small, but tight-knit music communities in Holland. First as a talent buyer at Groningen’s Simplon, later as a booker and resident of Doornroosje in Nijmegen. Thanks in great part to his efforts, Planet Rose has become one of Europe’s longest running techno nights. Together with his labels Wolfskuil and Balans, this has cemented the town’s reputation as a remarkable techno hub, and boasted Darko’s prominence as an excellent curator. 

Productionwise, Darko Esser has first brought out a string of superb releases under his own name, including his debut album, also called Balans. Tripeo’s ‘First Trip’ in 2012 was meant as somewhat of a side project. But soon enough, his new monicker struck a chord with connoisseurs worldwide. Especially when he unleashed his critically acclaimed album ‘Anipintiros’ in 2014, making him a household name from Berlin to Buenos Aires, and from Great-Britain to Georgia. 

Georgia’s Tblisi is one of the remarkable places abroad where Darko has found a deeper connection with the local crowd. The fearless determination and graceful open-mindedness of Bassiani’s techno community have been an inspiration in both his DJ sets and productions. It makes perfect sense for him to release his most diverse Tripeo album to date on the club’s esteemed label. Further exploring the crossroads between fierceness and vulnerability, ‘Green Is the New Red’ incorporates experimental escapades like electro and ambient. Relentless and emotionally charged, this is Tripeo at his most compelling.

For our latest Bleep Mix instalment, Sandwell District come through with a hefty programming of dark rollers fulfilling that promise of reinvigorated purpose they mentioned before: “Having a good time”. And with a wealth of exclusive unheard material it’s hard to refute the mission statement. Dropping straight into the cavernous environs of an unreleased Regis side Frosty Jack’s, the selection rides a restrained line building tension through a number of Nastia Reigel tracks deployed with utmost precision before upping its stride with Luke Slater’s Planetary Assault Systems and quickly landing first peak from The Wizard himself, with Jeff Mills' slamming ‘93 cut Step to Enchantment (Stringent). Taking in a track from their comrade Surgeon’s forthcoming album, as well as the simmering acid of their own tune Hidden, Sandwell District bring it back round full circle via two further unreleased reworks of heroes Meat Beat Manifesto providing a breakbeat singed rupture to close out the proceedings with the vocal snatches of MBM’s Helter Skelter summing it all up really: “It's in my brain now. This is it!”

We’ve met last December where we both were invited by Pax Romana for a crazy night at Radion, Amsterdam alongside lots of other great artists. I really enjoyed dancing to her opening set and invited her for the series. She recorded an amazing set for us, from dub to techno.

Fresh from Stochastic Drift, Barker’s buzzing second album named Bleep Record of the Month alongside an exclusive 12”, Barker sends a mix that really digs deep into the unique sonic methodology he has constructed across his solo career width a suitable breadth for what is also a milestone in the series, Bleep Mix #300.

From Debiasing to Utility to Stochastic Drift, Barker has been reimagining club music without its definitive thump, instead driven by melody and tactile synthesis, and this selection of tracks expands Barker’s soundworld with a host of artists walking a similar path. “For this mix, I picked out some of my favourite uptempo ambient tracks, recorded at home with two decks and a mixer. It’s music I've used in a lot of different contexts, as a DJ and listener, and I hope you enjoy it.”

Though the occasional dancefloor thump makes itself known, such as on Adriana Lopez’ ‘What Lies Behind’, it’s mostly in quaking subs rather than actual four to the floor, providing some ground for this mix’s airy freeform variety to fly over. We have the wooden plunks and seaspray of Afefe Iku’s Kenyan island sound, the wonky gamelan of Tyler Friedman’s maze of bells and chimes, the dense atmosphere of shaker-produced rain and electrical chirps forged deep in the ruins of The Future Sound Of London.

The midsection of this mix contains some magic in particular: the maestro of drumless trance Lorenzo Senni creates motion from pure jagged synth energy on ‘The Power of Failing’, dissolving into the aether of an unreleased Barker track, which further discharges into the kaleidoscopic stutters of Caribou’s ‘Never Come Back’ with jubilant piano chords and vocal clips wrought into a glitchy, swirling maelstrom of Koreless' prickly warmth. Digital Justice’s ‘Theme From It’s All Gone Pearshaped’ follows, a timeless staple for anyone wishing to dabble in melodic motion and synthsmithery, or any DJ set seeking to add some lift without losing momentum, of which this mix is in no short supply.

Our latest discovery is Bas Amro, a 19 year old wunderkind from Enschede in the Netherlands. Don’t be fooled be his age, there’s no doubt about the fact that his music sounds mature and developed. Bas has been DJ-ing and making music since he was 14 years old and has an extreme talent for making electronic music. He just gets it. The rights sounds, layering, arranging: it all seems to come natural to him. Titletrack ‘Le Huitième Arrondissement’ is examplatory for his talent. If Jimpster and Pepe Bradock would ever make a track together, it would probably sound like this. Beautiful, emotion ridden strings, organs are lushfully combined with a disco-esque bassline and solid house groove. A secret weapon for special moments if we dare say. We asked our good friend Pitto to reinterpret this tune and he managed to give the original moody vibe a dark little twist. Breakbeat and 4/4 are fighting over dominance througout, the atmosphere is irie, dark and a bit freaky without ever getting cold or mean. Fall and winter are coming and this is the prelude. ‘Sunday Rut’ concludes the 12th installment of the Ltd series. A no-nonsense tech house roller with a melodic surprise in the break and with that Bas reveals that he has much, much more in stall for us in the future!
