L 33 leads off with the intricate ‘Scream’. Setting the stage with a haunting synth pattern underlying arrays of distant percussion, L 33 punctuates the atmosphere with sharp, grinding stabs before dispensing a pleasingly disjointed groove of weighty bass notes and carefully placed medleys.

The Hutt features Disprove, and is as massive as Jabba. Beginning life as a military-style march, the beats soon start bouncing around on this one, teaming up with some electro-style top end and crunching bass notes. Creeping synths are added in to complete the picture, resulting in one hell of a piece of music.

Disprove, Inward, Hanzo & Randie - The Hutt

Murmuration Records dives into the deeper, darker edges of the D&B spectrum with a heavyweight two-tracker from Serbian producer Omneum, whose cutting-edge sound design and cerebral production style has helped earn his place amongst the greats of modern Neurofunk. 

'Consecration' is a precision-engineered weapon - razor-sharp drums, heaving sub pressure, and mechanised atmospherics all locked into a cold, relentless groove. Designed for warehouse systems and heads-down intensity.

'Ghosts' takes a more spacious, skeletal approach - stripping the elements back to their rawest form while maintaining a menacing, low-slung energy. Haunting textures, surgical edits, and an unshakable sense of tension make this a perfect B-side counterpoint.

This release solidifies Murmuration’s commitment to pushing intelligent, high-impact D&B with weight, depth, and detail.

Dutch producer Pythius' new EP 'New Order' bridges the gap between D&B and experimental electronica taking us back to a time when Bad Company were running the scene and Noisia were only just starting the rear their heads.

We have bagged the synthy, arpeggio heavy number 'Coruscant' and trust, it bangs. Combining retro synth sequences that wouldn’t sound out of place in Steven Sodenberg’s The Knick, with lush ambient pads, dub techno stabs and a knack for effective melodic progression (as well as the pre-requisite bassline sciene that comes with the job of releasing on Blackout), the man from Utrecht has created a number that will appeal to both the junglist massive as well as people who don’t usually dabble with the dark arts of 170bpm music.

The Tantrum Desire brand is most associated with the kind of epic  productions that have seen drum and bass become a mainstay of the mainstream. True heads will know that there’s always been an undercurrent of genre-twisting experimentalism present, which came to the fore on last year’s huge album Diversified. 


Nationwide Rocker opens in a dark and techy landscape. Reverberating stabs underpinned by the insistent buzz of low end strikes suggest we’re building into a display of neurofunk technique. And then we’re dropped into something that isn’t quite categorisable. It’s hard, dancefloor music, built from a stripped-back rhythm sequence and a succession of expertly-twisted basses. This is the collision of raw, visceral energy with that trademark Tantrum Desire slick 
production science.
Then Airhead takes us somewhere different. With a funky techstep call and response pattern, this is an instant dancefloor bubbler. And there’s an eighties electro sensibility woven into the stabs and synth-effectswhich makes this feel like it could be a 2016 rework of a forgotten crate-dug classic. It’s minimal and focussed but, as you’d expect from Tantrum Desire, it refuses to let the temperature drop, with precision-crafted builds to keep attention gripped on the 
bass-and-mid interplay right to the finish.
Next up, Anarchist appropriates the tropes of nineties hip-hop-influenced jump-up to give the sound a modernist renaissance. Rather than using a rap sample, Rhymestar is enlisted to provide the lyrical punch. His bars roll out over the half-time intro, and then peppered throughout as vocoded motifs to confirm that old skool vibe. There’s nothing old skool about the production levels, though, as the icicle-sharp drums and honey-and-lemon bassline drive the rave 
onwards.
You won’t be prepared for what Think About You has to offer. A bleeps-and-pads hands-in-the-air hardcore intro drops into some triplet-time rave workout material. We’re treated to mid-range grind resolving into luxuriant sweeping tones over a skippy 6/8 time-signature. But ravers and MCs better not get too comfortable, as a “Switch it up” sample 
signals a slam into 4/4 time. Then the breakdown cools things off ready to go back in with the madness once again.
If you didn’t know about Tantrum Desire’s versatility then you should have been paying closer attention. Don’t worry, though, because this EP is a perfect representation of the serpentine rule-bending contained within the sound. It’s all dancefloor music, but beyond that, anything’s possible.

An arsenal of sonic weaponry residing within the lines of his palms, drawn forth through the ancient forms manifested by long-dead masters. His swift movement amongst the shuffling army is efficient - acute strikes snap limbs, raw concentrated power crushes bone, low-frequency techniques leaving little behind from the weight of brutal molecular disruption. With the rising of the sun, only he remains – the broken dead lying scattered and without motion – the focused power of his fighting form has prevailed… the signal is preserved.
