UK-born and now based in New Zealand, (Maxwell) Monika is known for his expressive drum and bass tracks on well-known labels like Spearhead Records, Shogun Audio, and Fokuz Recordings. He’s just announced the release of his latest project, the ‘Off World’ EP—a sci-fi-inspired journey through drum & bass, breakbeat, jungle, and ambient music.

‘Off World’ is a spiritual follow-up to ‘Yikes FM’ (which dropped in 2021), and it’s the second instalment in Monika’s ‘MonTape’ series. This series is all about showcasing his creations that step outside the usual 174 bpm, club-ready realm. With ‘Off World,’ Monika dives deep into a retro, sci-fi vibe, drawing direct inspiration from classic novels like Frank Herbert’s ‘Dune’ and Dan Simmons’ ‘Hyperion.’ The cover art and track titles aim to capture that mysterious feeling you get from one of those dusty old books. Musically, Monika has channelled artists like Om Unit, Overmono, John Carpenter, and Vangelis to create a cinematic, analog mood that’s still rooted in the drum-led world of club music.

L.Sotnas é DJ e produtor que traz no DNA a paixão pela música eletrônica. Sua trajetória começou cedo, ouvindo muito Black Music, passando por campeonatos de dança e festas que 
marcaram o início da carreira. Atualmente integra o casting de DJs da Rádio StereoMix, de Mococa, e dedica-se à produção de remixes e faixas originais. Seu projeto Dance Medlay, iniciado em 2008, resgata a essência do House e abre espaço para influências de estilos como Drum & Bass, criando uma atmosfera vibrante e autêntica em cada set.

L. Sotnas is a DJ and producer with a passion for electronic music in his DNA. His career began early, listening to a lot of Black music, participating in dance competitions and parties that marked the beginning of his career. He is currently part of the DJ roster at Rádio StereoMix, in Mococa, and dedicates himself to producing remixes and original tracks. His Dance Medlay project, launched in 2008, recaptures the essence of House and embraces influences from styles like Drum & Bass, creating a vibrant and authentic atmosphere in each set.

You know what ... after this sentence, the rest is kinda provardo. To tell you the truth, I play what makes me feel good. Welcome to my bag of mixes, mostly D&B and liquid, but I like to play a fusion of sounds to tickle minds and create visual soundscapes. I have been mixing since 1993. Started on Technics 1210s with vinyl morphed to CDJs then my ikkle beauty a Numark iDJ pro by algorithm, somewhat rare iPad integrated controller. Now im back where I started on vinyl with the added luxury of time coded records to add into my mixes.  Anyways, I do what makes me feel good at the time cos, well thats all we got. Browse and hopefully find something that tickels you. Feedback always welcome, good, bad or darn right ugly. x
