This is a song about the demise of the Linen mills in East Belfast.  This song deals with a much broader theme with mill closures in traditional industries being seen in cities and countries all over.  The classic line from this song is; I'm too old to work, but I'm too young to die.....   I first heard this song sung by Colm O'Brien in the Boston Irish Pub Durty Nellys, where you can still hear Colm sing this song every Wednesday night.

The Wolfe Tones - Come Out Ye Black And Tans Remix

This is a demo recording of an Irish traditional song by Bound for the waves from a couple of years ago, when flute player Isaac Muller was still a member of the band. Sophie learned the song from English folk singer Dan Plews - who learned it from his father - and instantly fell in love with the dramatic lyrics despite it being a lullaby. Fiddle by Gilles Rullmann, bouzouki by Theo Burghouts, wooden flute Isaac Muller, vocals and guitar Sophie ter Schure.

A poignant pop song, with a real twist in the tail (listen to the last verse). Very popular in Wales because Tom Jones made it a huge hit in 1966.  Written by Claude "Curley" Putman and sung by various singers before Jones, including Jerry Lee Lewis, and Joan Baez, from 1965. This is my cover of that great song.  The image is my own picture, taken at the Long Tom Pass (of Boer War fame) in 2017, looking out over the rolling green grassy hills towards Sabie in the hazy distance.

When I started singing folk I stayed away from Dubliners repertoire for a long time, but I heard this song again recently after a six years gap (it was featured in the Gardensessions podcast that I was addicted to at the time) and enjoyed the lyrics so much that I learned them myself. Hopefully there will be some version with a fiddle or a clarinet or something in the near future :)
