A bit different to the other Doved Up mixes, this one is full of just piano tunes from the early 90s, still from the softer side of old skool.  I've tried to not do this mix for a long time as the piano genre has been hammered to death, but here is my take on it anyway.  I've picked a selection of obvious and not-so-obvious stuff and there are a few mash ups and other bits and pieces to keep it interesting (Well hopefully!).

In 2004 the late, great John Peel contacted me, saying he was enjoying my music. So I said I'll send him dubs. I did and true to his word he played them on his Radio 1 show. He would play Digital Mystikz exclusives. He was the first person to champion the sound on national radio, regardless of how underground it was. He also played some Digital Mystikz tunes which to this day have never seen a release. He also played tunes by others like Distance, Vex'd, Mark One aswell as few more producers back then.... 

So much was happening in 2004, so much music getting made so much love amongst a unit a producers/dj's and listeners. A community I was pleased to be a part of, it became my life.

On 16 December 2004 Radio One broadcast a huge show which was in tribute of him. The show went on for hours and many artists like The Undertones, Orbital, the Cure, New Order, Supergrass, Robert Plant, Underworld, Siouxsie Sioux, the Buzzcocks, Damon Albarn, many more also took part. 
I was lucky enough to be asked to play Live. This was the 1st time to play on any radio station and my second live dj set. As nervous as i felt, it was an honor and a great privilege to close his tribute show which was recorded with Annie Nightingale at the BBC's Maida Vales Studio's. 

A moment i'll never forget. 

Rest in Peace John Peel and thank you. An Originator in the purest sense.

Since the early 90's, I'd say there are a handful of house music record labels that managed to define a sound and stay ahead of the crowd... and Junior Boys Own is definitely one of them. Formed by Terry Farley & Steve Hall in 1992, the West London label was part of the 'Boys Own Collective' back then, a group of friends who DJ'd, promoted, produced records and ran a fanzine. The collective included Terry Farley, Pete Heller, Andrew Weatherall, and Tom & Ed (The Chemical Brothers) amongst others. The label released dozens of house classics in the 90's from artists including Fire Island, The Black Science Orchestra, Roach Motel, X-Press 2, and Outrage - all of whom feature on this mix. In my humble opinion, JBO was and always will be a true house music hero.

As always, this was mixed live on two Technics 1210's and an Allen & Heath Xone 22 mixer. No cheating with technology.

Doved up Volume 5!  This one almost didn't happen, my crossfader needs servicing again and has gone all stiff, so you may notice less of the cutting and more of the scratching!  Anyway, Doved up 5 is a bit of a Piano and Vocal special, I make no apologies for the content of this mix, there's some unashamedly pianoey stuff in there, from Italian piano screamers to plinky plonky vocal tracks.  This is the kind of stuff I used to play in the early 90s, but less so now as much of it has been hammered to death, but as the other Doved up mixes were quite popular, here's another.  The intro is a bit of a mess around with 3 decks, nothing too serious, beats, acapella and piano.  As always, I've tried to keep it interesting with loads of edits and other stuff, hopefully it'll work for you!

A mixed bag of oldskool tunage ranging from breaks to piano stompers, some obvious, some not-so-obvious and lots of scratching.  Tempo is 135bpm and the kind of stuff that you'd expect to hear at a rave in the early 90s, especially up north!  Hope you enjoy listening as much as I did mixing it!
