Classy sound! and love the change of pace in the middle.

It's my first and hopefully not last collaboration with the wonderful Dirk Maassen. 
I was very pleased when Dirk asked me to record a guitar part to his piece Déjà vu.
I recorded 2 versions, an improvised version and a more composed version. I decided to post my improvised version. It simply has more charisma and contrast to the piano.

This is somewhat different from my normal soundcloud releases. VKTT is one of my regular gigging bands and this track was recorded recently in a professional studio. The band features the wonderful Victoria Klewin, the “lovechild of Janis Joplin and Sarah Vaughan”. Victoria sings with amazing power, technical assurance  and most of all, intensity. The band of Esteban Olmos, Mark James, Paul Crawford, Paul Field, Sam Mills and myself has found that perfect balance between tightness and risk-taking, so every gig is an adventure. In a short space of time VKTT has enlivened festivals across the south of the UK, from Bath International, to Glastonbury, to Bristol Harbourside and Brisfest, to the jazz festivals in Marlborough and Cheltenham. There has also been a full live set for Jazz FM recorded at Boisdales Jazz Club in London.

I hope you appreciate this piece. I must be honest, Cubase was critical to create this track. I had it for a long time in my head. I tried many times to play it but it was never good. I'm not such a good piano player, so I decided to record two sections: one for the harmony and the other for the melody. I hope you appreciate, however, the composition and the passion with which I played.

I am a working full-time musician, teaching, performing, composing, recording and arranging, and my gigs in the last few years have included jazz combo, big band jazz, folk, Irish traditional, rock, soul, latin, klezmer, funk, orchestral, chamber, minimal techno, musical theatre and more, so, safe to say, I’ll have a go at anything.
