Hello everyone,

Many of you probably know this feeling. You start making music and completely lose track of time. The hours fly by, and suddenly it's late in the evening or even nighttime. I wanted to capture this theme in a lighthearted and humorous way.

I'm really happy that I was able to produce this song together with Mike Fox. Mike liked my idea for the arrangement and lyrics right away, and he was immediately on board. How much we appreciate each other can definitely be heard in the lyrics.

For this song, we were also able to bring in two guest singers—but just listen for yourselves! What they sing is probably something everyone in a relationship has heard at some point – or am I wrong?

Mike and I certainly hear it very, very often! 😆

Wolf Rider - From Where You Are

Carl from the Beautiful dark wrote a song today titled "Baldy Patty" and  it inspired me to write my own personal a song about baldness.  I started to lose my hair in my early twenties, and for awhile it bothered me and then one day, I decided to shave my head and I have never looked back. And now so many years have passed that I have been bald longer than I had hair.

This Empty World 

It is hard to escape the unrest in the world at the moment, horrific picture of  starving children, millions dying in wars, Psychopaths running countries and threatening nuclear war if they don’t get what they want. Very frightening times. 

All of this is having a profound effect on me and I am sure on a lot of normal people and I wonder, do these So called leaders have any idea of the effect all of these bombs going off and exhaust from tanks and jets is having on our Atmosphere ? what would happen to humanity if they actually did press that Nuclear button?  Armageddon would be released followed by disease and mother earth would fight back. 

With this as a mental backdrop, I had an idea for a song about the last human being left alive on Earth after such an event. There would have to be a “ Last man standing “  A bitter sweet experience to have survived nuclear wars, pandemic after pandemic and the death of life on the planet but to be All alone in this empty world. I had the music but not the lyrics. I sent off what I had to my Friend and musical collaborator Finn Eces and what you are about to hear is the amazing result.

Like many others, my family tree has countless branches. One of the largest branches stretches across the Atlantic to the Parry family in Wales. I had the privilege of knowing my great-grandfather, William Parry, who studied law, worked in  Washington D.C., and made many trips to Wales throughout his life.

William’s father, Edward Parry, was born in 1842 in a small stone house in Mold, near Flint, North Wales. According to my grandmother's notes, Edward worked in a coal mine and a chemical plant before taking a job on a small freighter that sailed between Liverpool and Dublin. His time on that freighter must have sparked a desire to travel, because at 26, he arrived in North America on St. Patrick's Day, 1868. He was the only one in his immediate family to do so and quickly established a new life and new home.

Of course, I never met Edward Parry, but I've come to know him through my grandmother's notes, along with a few photos and a couple of books he purchased as a young man.  From the items he left behind, I know that he loved music and poetry, was a hard worker, and raised three kind children who made the world a better place. This composition is inspired by his life and the family I have yet to meet who still live in Wales.

The dilemma lies in this: if sustainable modes of thinking and living can ultimately be overrun by destructive ones, can they truly be called sustainable? Perhaps they were merely appealing notions—unrealized promises, fragile dreams, and hopeful ideals—that endured only until the everloving fuck of greed and the thirst for power turned their gaze upon them. (This is not a quote, I just wrote this to be the description of this track.)

Music for bananas - Overrun

Recorded in 2021. remastered.  I have to have a new way to play the piano. My sister and my son are doing that. They are working out a way to bring the piano to my hospital bed. I can no longer sit up, even in my powerchair. It's too uncomfortable and hard to breathe. I don't have functioning back or abdominal muscles, and I can't lift my head off my chest unless In laying back. Only my arms and hands are semi-functioning. My thumbs are going bad. I can't pull a zipper. I won't be able to play as well and I don't know how I'll work the sustain pedal - but I'll do my best! 😊🎶🎹🎶

Light at The End of The Darkness

In the dusty attic of his grandfather’s old house, Dan, who suffers from insomnia, finds a yellowed parchment in the middle of the night. Part of the old eccentric’s legacy? Long ago, he had roamed dark forests, crossed deserts, and explored inaccessible mountains.

The parchment shows, though only faintly, a location in El Caramar — the legendary place his grandfather had told so many stories about. Without delay, Dan sets out in search of further clues. The route leads across the storm-lashed Horka Sea, inhabited by dark creatures. Upstream, through narrow gorges, he must face the natives who guarded the entrance to El Caramar and the secret it conceals.

This purely orchestral music draws on the clichés of film scores from the 1980s to the 2000s. Instead of a clearly recognizable theme or leitmotif, I tried to express rapidly shifting moods through specific instrumentation.

A gentle melody with harp arpeggios immediately transitions into a menacing rhythmic section with chromatic harmony, followed by a tension-filled passage with a strong element of aleatoric writing. The now accelerating tempo leads to the main motif but shifts directly into an action-packed part with string staccatos.

The motif is then varied and played at half speed by solo strings, taking on a very sorrowful tone. But then the mood turns serious. Low brass and a string ostinato lead to the climax of the piece, another variation of the theme in which the choir joins in at full volume.

When I was 19, a guy I barely knew grabbed me from behind at a party and tried to kiss me. I pushed him away. I said, "Stop!" He laughed.
Later he told everyone I was asking for it.
Friends avoided me.
That's when I realized my body could be treated like it wasn't mine.

Because when you silence one half, you break the whole
When you deny the spirit, the body loses its way

We were told to be strong, but not the kind of strong that feels, the kind of strong that carries weight, swallows pain, never cries.
We were told provide, protect, fight, but don't show weakness, don't need help, and if we do, we're failures.
So we hide behind anger, behind violence, behind silence. We die younger. We take our own lives.
We are denied the right to be whole, just as much as you are.

When I was 14, my grandpa died and I cried. My dad said, "Real men don't cry."
At school, kids called me a wimp. I learned to swallow every emotion, to act like pain didn't exist. Later, I acted tough so no one would see that scared kid.

But we're afraid of ourselves.

And I scroll and I see it too.
Man, shame for showing feeling. Women calling me weak. Society telling me I'm not enough, not strong enough, not masculine enough. Every meme, every reply, a punch in the gut.
A challenge to my existence.

And we fight each other online, throwing words like weapons, forgetting the real war is against the system that taught us to doubt each other, to doubt ourselves. We tear down the other half of ourselves instead of seeing a reflection.

Hazy clouds is about a time in my life when I had hit rock bottom. My marriage had failed and everything had gone to shit. Broken promises and betrayed friendships. There was no light in my darkness and all I could feel was loneliness and pain.

So, our friend (assuming he really is our friend) is no longer alone at home. The work week is over, it’s been a hard one. Maybe for both of them: for him, and for the woman now leaning out the window. There’s a touch of unease in the air, and it’s not necessarily connected to how things are going between them. Maybe something is about to happen. Or maybe not. The only sure thing is that they’re not interested in finding out.

This is the fourth in a series of eight easy, acoustic, rather short, and deliberately inconclusive tracks, assembled by combining new ideas with reworked older material, adding parts and sounds along the way. This time I struggled to make it to the end, adding and removing, changing and restoring and working to the mix. I probably messed things up a bit (thirty recorded tracks, twenty of them muted...), but never mind.

I have decided to take you into my studio lair for a peak into the cobwebs, corners and hidden nooks; the very mad-house of my thinking, or at least as best I can recollect the moments of……"Song Creation". I will use a single song to highlight my process.
