Dimitri From Paris and DJ Rocca have lots of history of producing together as Erodiscotique and once again here they team up on a new single for Hell Yeah. The stunning original, Disco Shake, comes backed with remixes from Luminodisco, JKriv, D&G and A Mix by remix pioneer and living legend Tom Moulton.

Dimitri from Paris is a true electronic music legend – he pioneered his own French house sound at the start of his career, has mixed seminal compilations including the cult "Deluxe House of Funk" and the infamous "A Night At The Playboy Mansion" and has remixed everyone from The Rapture to Storm Queen in recent times.
His partner in crime here, DJ Rocca – who is part of Ajello and the excellent Crimea X - is one of the key figures in the new Italian house scene. He has released lots of productions and remixes for Classic, Rekids and International Feel and once again comes up with the goods here.

In original form the single is a foot stomping bit of disco with organic drums, breathy vocals and plenty of laser like guitar lines shooting through the arrangement. Bright golden chords add a luxurious quality to the Italo referencing pianos and the twinkly, starry breakdown allows a moment to catch your breath before is off to authentic disco town once again.

Another standout track from the recent Sunburst Band album is the boogiefied house cut ‘Definition of Luv’ featuring Diane Charlemagne. 

Rising star Sean McCabe once again comes through with a brilliant remix adding his trademark deep and soulful house sound using Diane’s vocals to great effect. His Main mix is one for the soulful house heads while his Definition of Dub goes a bit deeper and dubby.

As always Joey Negro turns in his own extended album mix and Dubstrumental stretching out the original making the most of the 80's style synth parts.

The Joey Negro Strip Mix is unashamedly feel-good with its bouncing, skewed and spraying synths and driving bassline, with pristine production putting many imitators to shame.

The Akabu Warehouse Mix is built on chunky drums and classic claps before rave indebted synths swoop into the mix. Building the tension slowly, the whole thing comes alive with a bobbling bassline and the carefully chopped and spliced diva vocals of Miss Mills.

Following on from the likes of “Backstreet Brit Funk”, “Destination Boogie” “GoGo Get Down”, the well-received and growing Under The Influence series and the ever-popular Soul of Disco albums, Z Records continue to release high quality compilations filled with lesser known disco, soul, funk and boogie. Now ZR returns with a long overdue Gospel album compiled by David Hill. 

A word from David Hill...

“Gospel music has often followed the prominent trends in secular music, probably in the hope of widening its audience by giving the subject matter a sprinkling of cool. In the 60s it happened with R&B and then funk-flavoured gospel, the 70s brought sweet-soul crossovers, and by 1975 the sounds of early disco had started to permeate the genre. This compilation brings together overlooked gospel gems that have their production rooted in disco and boogie, the sound of the early 80s that followed in disco’s wake. It’s only recently that this music has begun to be appreciated by fans outside of its original target market, and I’m glad to help it finally reach a wider audience.”

David began his music career in 1994 as a member of the Ballistic Brothers, together with Ashley Beedle and Rocky & Diesel of X-Press 2. In 1994 he co-founded the Nuphonic record label, where he managed the creative aspects on almost a hundred releases, with artists including Faze Action, Norman Jay, Andrew Weatherall, Maurice Fulton and David Mancuso. In addition to the record label, Nuphonic also produced the Sony award winning London Xpress radio show for Xfm, which led to various club nights. 

David has also acted as a music consultant to several record companies, one of these being Soul Jazz records, who he produced a series of successful albums for - in 2004 the ‘World of Arthur Russell’ and more then the acclaimed ‘Soul Gospel’ series. He was also production consultant for Auralux, the London based reggae reissue record label, where he worked with Lee Perry, King Jammys, Sly & Robbie and Linval Thompson.

He continues to work on personal projects such as Rootikal, the monthly roots reggae Night, and has a number of reissue and compilation projects currently in production. He is also currently overseeing the production of a book and an accompanying touring exhibition that will showcase Bill Bernstein's photographs of New York nightlife in the late ’70s.


As always with Z Records, we've spent time and money to make the masters sound as good as possible so if you're a fan of compilations from BBE or Dimitri From Paris and our own Soul of Disco & Under The Influence CD’s then this new Gospel album will not disappoint.

Antonello Ferrari feat. Jennifer Wallace "Make Room For Me" Joey Negro Disco Boogie Dub Extravaganza

Here’s the second part of the double EP that goes to make Paper’s 150th single release and it’s a feel good slice of summer with vocals from Cristabella May.

The original is a crisp, mid-tempo deep house track that and has the vintage Paper sound.  It builds up to the break before dropping to a soulful piano and the vocals.  The track then unfurls over live instrumentation and strings before heading in to a good times house jam.

Ron Basejam continues his purple patch, taking things deep with a super heavy funk vibe. The tempo has dropped with low-slung beats and a rock solid riff setting the mix up nicely.  It’s kept sparse with a Rhodes break in the middle as the instruments play off each other and is a stripped down dancefloor chug.  

Dean “Sunshine’ Smith keeps all the elements in place but brings out the soul. He has re-arranged the track and brought in his own elements, like a Balearic ‘arp, more pads and synth bass.  Sunset never sounded so good!

Finally Leon’s Dub goes Balearic by taking a guitar riff that’s got the Mediterranean all over it. The vocals are used sparingly and a rolling filtered bass drives the flute and guitar.
