Déepalma returns with the first of their post-summer releases, as Cologne’s Meines & labelhead Yves Murasca deliver an emotive latin flavoured two-track combo of dancefloor-ready cuts - Mazunte Me Calma.

Kicking off the release, ‘Mazunte’ presents itself in the form of an uplifting melodic-led blend of deep flavours. Punchy drums and subtle percussive rhythm collide with prominent chords to create an euphoric melting pot of energy. The track’s transitional phases sport an exotic latin vocal hook that fizzles out as you slide back into its driving groove.

'Me Calma' then completes the release with a smooth and seductive edge. A captivating array of synth notes and sultry - also spanish - female vocals combine with more exquisite percussions to give a true sunset feel. GREG WILSON @ THE STONE BOAT - FESTIVAL NO.6 - 06.09.15

There are few names more revered than Greg Wilson when it comes to DJing. In a time when the word legend gets thrown around referring to anyone vaguely involved in the formative years of house, Greg is one of the few names genuinely deserving of that status. From his hugely popular residencies in the early eighties at Wigan Pier and Manchester's majorly influential clubs Legend and The Hacienda, his role in the development of electronic music in the UK cannot be overstated.

Having begun DJing in 1975, 2015 sees Greg celebrate his fourth decade as a DJ and so we thought we'd invite him mark the occasion in the best possible way - by serving up a fresh set of selections for us to wrap our ears around.

Mixed in celebration of two anniversaries - he is also due to touch down in Liverpool December 5th for unconventional party starters Freeze's 10th year celebrations - the Super Weird Substance boss again showcases why he's still at the top of the tree all these years on. Here's to the next 40 Greg!

David Joseph’s ‘You Can’t Hide (Your Love From Me)' is a track I’ll forever have a strong personal association with, given that it was with 2 copies of this 12" that I made my claim to fame as the 1st UK DJ to mix live on TV – on February 25th 1983 at Newcastle’s Tyne Tees TV studio, on the classic British music show, ‘The Tube’. Last April I was sent a link to an edit by Italian DJ Moplen™ and was, as you can imagine, intrigued when I saw what it was - David Joseph – ‘You Can't Hide (Your DUB From Me)’. Utilizing the Larry Levan mix (I’d used original UK twelves on The Tube, the Levan mix wouldn’t come until later, when the track went big in the NYC clubs), Moplen had done a fine job, but unfortunately I couldn’t play it. 

I replied to his mail, explaining that because of my connection to the track I would need the vocal in there at some point, otherwise the dancefloor might feel short changed. The whole dub vibe teases things up a treat, but the money shot of the song is a must for my own purposes. Moplen was getting a great reaction to the edit as it was, and rightly so – check it out here:

So, for my own personal use, I edited Moplen’s edit to incorporate the full vocal, and the resulting version became one of my big festival tracks of 2011, and something that’s appeared in a number of my live mixes.

This track has come a long way with me since I was first sent a UK promo by Island Records 29 years ago.
