The Gnostic, Basilides, (died about 130) gave the name of Abraxas to the highest Being, who presides over the 364 kingdoms of spirits.  This felt like ot would make a good title for a rousing piece of music.

However, my output is primarily orchestral and chamber music, and my compositions have been performed, recorded, and broadcast nationally and internationally.

Joseph Hasper is an American composer best known for jazz influenced compositions and arrangements. He has written works for the Holland Symphony Orchestra, the Carolina Cool Jazz Orchestra, the Newburg Symphony, Pacific Fresno University, Abilene Christian University, and York College of Pennsylvania, as well as countless professional and educational ensembles.

Joseph studied composition with Marilyn Taft Thomas and Leonardo Balada at Carnegie-Mellon University. He later studied jazz theory and arranging with Rich Shemeira and Phil Markowitz at the Mannes College of Music, and earned a doctoral degree in composition from the University of Oklahoma where he teaches digital signal processing.

He has been active since 1981 as an arranger, piano soloist, sideman and combo leader. Notable engagements include long-running jazz trio gigs at the Seoul Hyatt; keyboardist and arranger for Harriet LeGrant; keyboardist and arranger for The Great Scott Band in Asbury Park, NJ, and staff arranger for US Army Bands based in Alabama, Washington State, New Jersey and Korea.
