Improvisations on Pat's Handmade Guitar

Wow! What can someone say. If anyone of you really takes the time to read my crap (thanks i appreciate) probably knows, that i had quite some troubles with inspiration and really felt like i over exceeded myself and my artistic vessel in 2k20....

So i really kept sticking more to listening and later on i had to take a complete break, step a bit back and i got to admit that i really enjoyed the off time. I was completely away from and with music, as i couldn't keep up with this intense pace and i simply wasn't able to draw any more out of that fragile "bucket" so to say.

I am really into Collaborating this year, so i put aside my (plenty of) projects and as i really befriended a few of you amazing artists out there, i got to admit, that it was (no offense towards any other closer friends here) the biggest impact for me, when my dear @texmex-shaman suddenly sent me this first raw version of the first third of what i can present to you today.....

It took me quite some time to get into it, but then it evolved, it grew into this wonderful thing here and i think it cured me... kinda... After busy months and going (wild again) with the arts for the cover to try to also convey the feeling into an image to show it to you, my fellow soundcloud friends and all other people....

..., it guided me to the point where i can now say "Here we are. This is it for me, after a long break to be able to upload again something where i put so much love and creativity and musical spirit into"...... This is also a declaration of love to Jim Morrison and his Spiritualty and his Native American Spirit......

Thank you for staying here with me my friends and its always so great to experience all this and this community and passion and love for music and so much more!

A Song Of Freedom - Special Cecilia & OMCB

All the sounds you are about to hear are made from real instruments, I used 3000 year old Mayan ,Aztec and Inca flute samples.
Ancient civilizations didn't used the same notes we use today, those early musical instruments like flutes were just mimicking what they heard in the rainforest, animals like birds, owls, wolfs, parrots etc...
This is by far the largest piece I wrote and I am exhausted.

Wishing On A Star - Yb (feat. Jb Streetz)

Introduction in English:
A few years ago, one of my best friends almost died as a result of his alcohol addiction. One autumn day, almost exactly 20 years ago, I wanted to visit him in his small Berlin apartment, because I had not been able to reach him by phone for days and he did not respond to my mails. I was very worried about him. 
Since the door was open, I was able to get into his apartment, which was completely devastated and partly badly damaged. 
As I heard later, he had gone completely crazy after a repeated alcoholic excess. Neighbors had called the police, who then took him to the closed psychiatric ward. 
This low point in his life also meant a decisive turning point for him. Since that day, he has remained sober and has not touched a drop of alcohol. 
During one of our musical jam sessions this year, he asked me to write a song that would help him to better understand this time of self-destruction and to integrate it more into his life story. 
The result is this song "Naked".....

Nackt (Naked)

This single release is track number 9 from the ‘transatlantic quarantaine sessions”.

In the period between 1998 to 2019 Boo Boo Davis used to come and tour in Europe several times each year. Most of his music was written and recorded during these tours.  

The worldwide Covid disaster changed that tradition. But with the help of the internet and our mutual friend Chris Brown in St Louis, the guys from ElectroBluesSociety (Netherlands) and Boo Boo started to work on new music. 

The result of these 'online quarantaine sessions' is released as a string of single tracks. Covid may stop live shows for a while but it can not stop the creation of new music.

My good friend, mandolinist bandmate, and SC collaborator Pat Howell started building a guitar from a mail-order kit some thirty years ago, got pretty far along on it, then had a local luthier do the finishing work.  It is the guitar pictured and is a masterpiece of craftsmanship and sound.   Being thoroughly smitten by all things mandolin, the guitar hasn't been played much, and he paid me the highest complement by asking me to record the guitar so he can hear what it sounds like as a listener.  I readily agreed mostly because it was a chance to play the guitar again:)  As I was improvising into the Zoom, this little nugget showed up and thought you all might like to hear it too:) I did some editing for musical flow and added some reverb, but nothing else was done to alter the tone of the guitar.  It is a special song for my friend.

Don't Feel Like Working Today

What a joy it was to play Pat's hand-built guitar in this series of improvisational musings.  This one is also in Drop D tuning drawing  inspiration from Fahey to Beethoven, but no inspiration more prominent than Pat himself in our friendship and collaborations.  As in the previous parts, only reverb was added to enhance the ambience of the guitar sound, no tonal filters were used.

For My Friend--Part 3 Miscellaneous Musings

I came across this little improv I did a while back on Pat Howell's beautifully crafted home-built guitar, and had been keeping it in my back pocket for St. Patty's Day.  In this track I riff on some tunes I've played over the last several years but take on a new richness played on his guitar in drop D tuning.  If you're keeping score, the first is "Emerald Isle", the second is "A Splash of Joy" and last is "Celtic D'lite".  Enjoy with your favorite Irish brew:)
