As a metaphor, it's thinly veiled but for someone who writes 99% of the time on acoustic guitar, using the synths and drum machine and then singing in a lower register was plenty of fun.

Rockland

Trying to start with a statement of intent, this one is lyrically pretty on the nose but is also an opportunity to hilight my new Stratocaster ("Sylvester") and Ronny Wiskin's funky bass playing.
I don't know that I ever seriously considered "Steal from the Best" as an alt title for the record but it was definitely a governing concept, with some perfectly obvious Smiths lyric references here.

A New World Order

I just noticed you can add notes to songs, eh?
Well, I don't know much over-explaining I want to do for all these but:
-I decided to try writing a lot of this album with synths and such as opposed to acoustic guitar, which is what I normally do. (One my "rules" for myself for this album was no acoustic guitar. Also no piano or B3 or other 'tranditional' instrumentation in which I generally indulge.)
-Part of that was composing little experiments, some of which became songs and some of which didn't and some of which I thought I'd use as little interstitials.
-This and the intro/outro of High Tide are about all that remain from all that and it's a bit cutesy but I figure if Van Halen could do it on 1984, I could do it too. so that's my justification.
Will I do more of these notes? Maybe!
