I'm a  retired Singer/Songwriter my instruments are: Vocals, Guitars/Rhythm/Lead/Slide/Acoustics, Harmonica, Percussion and a Keyboards.

I was co-founder of Booze 'n' Blooze .

I'm first and foremost a Songwriter.  I was double finalist in the UK song contest 2011 with two different songs, Finalist in the USA song of the year contest 2012 and have a co-written track on a USA Country album.

 - BIBLIOGRAPHY -


David Austin started his life in a tiny village called Waterlooville in Hampshire in 1949.  He comes from a very musical family.  His father George Austin, was a very good Jazz guitarist in the 1950’s – 1960’s, playing with Dudley Moore on the eponymous Jazz 625 programme which was shown in the early days of BBC2 around 1964.  George Austin’s playing career spanned 50 years.  David has 2 brothers who are both outstanding musicians, Robert (7 years David’s junior) is another guitarist and John the eldest by 1 year is a bass player who lives near Lymington.

David started playing the guitar in the early 1970’s, and slowly his playing started to evolve more as a songwriter.  In 2011 Polydor contacted him to confirm that they had sent Rocking & a Rolling (re-recorded by SCAMP STUDIO) to the management of Nicole Schurgziner at Interscope.  In 2014 he has had two different community radio states play his music.  WA12RADIO.CO.UK and BROOKLANDS RADIO.  

His song “Crazy when he’s Not Calling” reached the ‘Finals’ of the 2008 UK Songwriting Contest which his niece ‘Rachel Austin’ sang whilst just 16.  His writing style is made up of an eclectic mix of Jazzy / Latin, easy listening Country/Blues, folky type songs.  Cosmic Force has 18 easy listening Jazzy / Latin songs which could be used as musical ideas for either a film or TV.  The other CD ‘Gentle Blues’ is made up of 18 easy listening country / bluesy / folk type songs.  He is currently developing a third catalogue of laid back songs which hark back to the innocence of the 1960’s, yet with a modern feel.  He has written around 95 songs, 4 albums; 18 Jazzy/Latin songs on an album called “COSMIC FORCE”, 18 country/folky/blues rock songs on another album called “GENTLE BLUES”.  In addition to 10 satirical observational tracks called “DON’T MAKE ME LAUGH!”.  Finally, he has been building up a dance track CD full of songs that have been re-recorded & re-arranged in to dance tracks by SCAMP STUDIO.   He had an article printed in the Brighton Argos on the 12 June 2012 about an incident caused by a car driver whilst he was cycling.  The song link that the Brighton Argos printed in their paper was called “On the Mobile” The story to the background to the song, is that it is a lampoon against selfish drivers who think it is absolutely fine to hammer down the road with the mobile clamped to their ears yacking away, oblivious to the mangled mayhem they have caused behind them!  The humour of the song is quite perverse.  Being aware that is precisely what young people tend to like.  

In January 2017, he commissioned Jason Miles to re-arrange & re-record "CRAZY WHEN HE'S NOT CALLING".  Jason has worked with Quincy Jones, Miles Davis, Chaka Khan, Michael Jackson.  The song has been sent to PLAY MPE in Vancouver to be promoted in the USA, Canada and the BBC.  He is talking to music marketing companies in Japan to promote the song in Japan.  In addition, Jason has agreed to re-work this song in to a Brazilian re-mix by flipping the rhythm.  A video is going to be created with a young couple as well as animation.

David is also working on a book called “SUPER FISCAL” which is a geo-political legal forensic thriller, about money laundering and drugs.  He has finished the first draft in October 2013.  In December 2016 he has been working with a firm of literary consultants to analyse the plot, character and story line.    Once work on the dialogue has been completed by September 2017 he is looking to get signed to a Literary Agent sometime in 2018.

Songwriters Dave/Linda Freer who are keen to continue to build a catalogue of songs and to continue to collaborate. Dave Freer is now also co-writing with songwriters from the USA, Canada and England.
