Pure of Heart was created during a study session with Nizaar Khan from India (Jodpur - Rajasthan) at my Bergtonstudio. A little jubilation outside the work on an album by Nizaar and me for a meditative world music fusion of Indian traditional elements and the intuitive music of with in the spirit of Markus Stockhausen. This piece is a fusion of traditions from Afghanistan (my frame drum) and the Sarod (played with virtuosity by Nizaar). A piece of pure being and pure of any differences in the cultures. Sometimes, the only way out of hell is to name it. “Holding Off Tomorrow” is about what it feels like to carry someone else’s pain and finally admit that it’s breaking you down. This track was written in the shadow of endings—holding on too long, blaming myself, until it became clear that some love stories are really just lessons. It’s a confession, a letting go, and a survival anthem rolled into one.
