This piece is composed of sound recordings made in Quartier St-Pierre in Montreal, as well as material derived from analog and digital processing of these recordings. The piece seeks to make us aware of the acoustic reality that inhabits this neighbourhood.

Following a certain vision of North American modernity according to which the quality of life inevitably depends on the purchase of a car and a single-family house; Highway 20 and its Saint-Pierre interchange were built in the 1960s.

Former city of the same name, the area was annexed to the borough of Lachine in 1999. Inhabited by about 5,400 people, Saint-Pierre, or Saint-Pierre city for the locals, is completely enclosed by enormous transport infrastructures, including Highway 20 and two railroads (Canadian Pacific and Canadian National). Added to this is the current repair work on the Saint-Pierre interchange and a noisy bypass for trucks that crosses the neighbourhood.

The noise pollution found there is the inspiration for the work.

The loud shrieks of the Tree hyraxes are a common and unmistakable sound in Mt. Kenya and other highland forests. Tree Hyraxes are medium-sized mammals living in the canopies of tropical forests. They are shy and only move at night, to forage for food or look for mates. As the night unfolds, so do the calls, eventually quietening down, and then rise once more in the wee hours of the morning.
