In his follow up to the stoic "Dancing Thru It", the up-beat "Hey You" finds Hudson in a more optimistic mood. Minimal and romantic, this reminds us of Mr H's London roots despite his current California residency. "Sometimes you need to leave a place to write about it" he muses, "and leaving London has made me miss the London sound, things i was listening to before i left like MJ Cole and Grades. It feels like Disclosure etc have kicked open the door in the US for UK sounds." This wistful three minute snap shot of a first romantic encounter, captures Hudson's wisdom on chat up lines "There's no such thing as a good chat up line. All you can do is say 'hello' " and that lust at first sight moment when you realise you can't "live without" someone even if they're a stranger. In this brave new world where everyone meets digitally "Hey You" seems to capture an old fashioned approach to "lucky" connections in the real world. Art with Limitations:

This is what happens when you are given 4 notes to compose with. The only pitches used in this piece are F, A, C, E.

I tried using dynamics, timing, phrasing and being flexible with time signatures to create movement as the full range of a scale wasn't available to me. I also tried to pre-empt the movement from time signature to time signature by shifting accents around to create new strong pulses.

This is the piece in its 5th incarnation.
