D'origine française, Romain Malagnoux, guitariste et chanteur, réside à Québec depuis 2004. C’est en 2009 que Romain concrétise un  vieux rêve en se rendant au Mali pour découvrir ses traditions musicales. Inspiré par le travail de Bassékou Kouyaté, il commence à suivre des cours de djeli n’goni (petite guitare africaine).

Bénévole au Festival au Désert de Tombouctou, Romain y fait la rencontre de Kouyaté qui, de retour à Bamako, lui présentera son fils Moustafa. Entre Romain et lui, la chimie musicale opère aussitôt. C'est en 2011, lors d'un second voyage au Mali que Romain écrit et enregistre avec Moustafa l'album "Les frontières imaginaires" paru à l'automne 2013.

Leurs influences, Bassekou Kouyaté bien sûr mais aussi Habib Koité et Rodrigo et Gabriela!

Singer and guitarist Romain Malagnoux, born and raised in France, has now been residing in Quebec since 2004. In 2009, a long dream finally came true for him when he travelled to Mali, Africa to absorb the musical traditions and vibrations of the local people. Inspired by the work and talent of Bassékou Kouyaté, one of the country’s greater artists, learning to play the djeli n’goni. 

It’s also during his stay that he met with Kouyaté himself during Tombouctou Desert Festival. Back in Bamako over a cup of tea, Bassékou introduced Romain to his son Moustafa. The chemistry be-tween the two musicians operate immediately, as in 2011 during a second stay in Mali, Romain and Moustafa wrote and recorded the album, titled “Les Frontières Imaginaires”.

On this album, one will note the influences of Bassékou Kouyaté, Habib Koité, and of Rodrigo & Gabriela.
