Back again to leisurely rock your boomboxes with My Definition of Chill Vol. 3. I've been overjoyed with the reaction I've received from the first two installments.  What began as a mix I was initially going to keep to myself ended up becoming my most listened to mix I've released. For volume 3 my life in San Francisco was a big inspiration for the songs that made it in. A departure in style from both volumes 1 and 2. I'm really happy to share these 22 songs with you that I've been listening to for the last 6 months I've been putting this together. Lots of cool stuff I've run across with vocals from Bob Marley, Al Green and Paul McCartney, a classic from DJ Shadow remixed in elegant style, old school chill classics with Orbital and Nightmares on Wax (I had to include them at some point) and some nods to particular friends with a few of the songs. I want to send a big thank you to everyone who has expressed their gratitude for the My Definition of Chill mixes. It keeps the wheels turning knowing other people are really appreciating the end result. 

I can't leave out a quick shout out to my fundraising effort for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. I'll be competing in a triathlon September 8 in San Diego to that end. Here's my set from New Years 2012-2013 at an event called "Inspire Truth" in Portland, Oregon with 2900 people and three stages! I ended up playing 14 tracks/remixes I created (6 unreleased tracks), and then ended with a few other tracks. I was playing on a nicely tuned Funktion 1 rig and had lot's of family around, which was really warm :) I played a bit more psychedelic/unorthodox music than usual, partly because it was a late night set (2:40-4:05am) and partly because I thought it would be an interesting contrast to much of the other music I was hearing at the event. The intention with this is as it's always been.. to help provide a healing space for connecting with ourselves and the cosmos :)

After two years, too many tracks compiled, and too much deliberation, here is ‘Blooming Wizardly Babies’.  Originally conceptualized around playing at Blooming Heart and wanting to make up a mix for all the lovely little ones being born to our family of friends the past few years, this is what ended up becoming a little labor of love.  Due to the year and a half or so spent with this, gaps of time in which I worked on the mix happened, and therefore it seems to be in waves of movements.  Smoke a fat one, crack a pint of something tasty, sit back, turn the volume up to a polite decibel level, and bask in the sounds of some incredible producers!  Injoy.

Muditā means joy. It is especially sympathetic or vicarious joy, the pleasure that comes from delighting in other people's well-being rather than begrudging it. The traditional paradigmatic example of this mind-state is the attitude of a parent observing a growing child's accomplishments and successes, but it is not to be confounded with pride as the person feeling muditā must not have any interest or direct income from the accomplishments of the other. If we can be happy when other people are healthy and prosperous, it is called muditā; the opposite word is jealousy.
