"Extrovert/Introvert" is the first part of the "Extrovert/Introvert" single I planned to release in 2017, but I was dropped by the label I was releasing music with, so it never came to fruition, and I was so disappointed in being dropped that I didn't see a point in releasing the songs. 

In 2016, I had released "The 9th Sky," my third album after "The Russian Lady Diaries (2011)," and "Fractured Reality (2012)" I loved that production, but after I finished it, I was left thinking, "now what?" I had done everything I wanted to do musically in "The 9th Sky," and nothing was really calling my attention. At that point, the EDM boom had peaked, so it was harder to differentiate between songs as most producers sounded like each other regardless of genre, and finding new innovative producers to draw inspiration from became troublesome. 

Luckily, all I needed was to go back to basics. Sometime in 2017 I discovered Blackgummy, and suddenly my desire to make music came back after listening to their EP. I enjoyed the simplicity of his music that contained enough complexity to keep listeners interested. I picked up how basic phrases can be expanded upon by messing with the sound itself to create new a new way of delivering music. It really inspired me to become more experimental in my music. 

Deadmau5 also inspired me. Though he did this more towards his early career, Joel is a master of continuity in songs. For example, consider his awesome album "For Lack of a Better Name." In this album phrases, motifs, progressions are shared throughout the entire album so it sounds like an unified listening experience. 

I wanted to try that myself and that's where "Extrovert/Introvert" came from. The two songs are very different, "Extrovert" is electro house and "Introvert" is progressive house; the aural atmospheres of the two songs are very different too, with the former sounding more upbeat and the latter a little bit more conversative. But underneath, the two songs are connected by the chord progression and some similar sounds. Both the songs break into a swelling chord pad in the second "verse." The basic rhythm is shared between the two songs as well so that "Extrovert" mixes directly into "Introvert." They work very interestingly. 

Unfortunately, by the time I produced the songs I had already finished my time DJing for Toad's Place so I never tested them live.
