The idea for Suemori's new alias arose in conversation with Osàre! Editions label boss, Elena Colombi. An inheritance from his grandfather, the name sets the tone of the album that synthesises traditional Japanese instruments into an electronic format. Dub and drone’s eerie resonance collides with staccato electro and fizzling acid on ‘Yakkosan.’ Driven by a meditative beat, flutes and choral voices glide through 'Senpai Kouhai' while ‘Hankumoi’ shudders with lucid synth. The cultural iconography of Japan emerges from this dark, textual landscape, haunted both by the ghosts of the past and spectral sound of the future.

Recorded during the great pandemic crossing of 2020 - 2021, "Istmo", Sal Grosso's third record, retains the naive spirit of his previous works: there are 9 tracks of free structure that constitute as many soundscapes made of sugary melodies and undulating synthesizers - always captured on the first take. The record thus walks in such disparate - but close - territories as Ellen Fullman's drones, Lyra Pramuk's experimentations, Steve Hauschildt's psychedelic ambient, or the atmospheric jazz of Supersilent or The Necks. Make no mistake - this is a powerful, heartfelt record that perfectly illustrates the remarkable musical growth of Sal Grosso over the last couple of years.

Although the music was recorded and composed at home and in solitary mode by Sal Grosso, "Istmo" was finished at the nostalgic Quarto Escuro (Porto) with the precious help of Ricardo Cabral and José Miguel Silva (who had already been involved in the previous albums) in the production, mixing and mastering.

The German philosopher Hermann Schmitz defines as vagueness the basic perceptive condition for describing the concept of atmosphere, and the spatial model within which it can be experienced. The space of feeling - a space by definition devoid of surfaces and animated by numerous semi-entities - is able to involve the individual immediately, bodily and affective, for being characterized by intrinsic properties such as indeterminacy and impermanence.

To clarify the spatial character of feelings understood as atmosphere, Schmitz adopts the analogy with the acoustic model explaining its ability to act despite the impossibility of defining a quantifiable spatial model. Vago Spazio del Ritmo - Vol. 1 is the first chapter of a path dedicated to the indefinite that surrounds us and that becomes a refuge, only experienced via sensations. 

12 artists have vaguely wandered among new unexplored atmospheres, pushing the boundaries that define the dimension of listening and dancefloor, paying homage to the leftfield hemisphere in a non-linear and unexpected journey that will bring us to experience the unexplored forms of our emotions.
