Blackbirds FC's third album!

This record has been a long labour of love for the band and features ten hand-tooled total bangers including the singles Rings Around the Sun, Lake of Stars and What's the Half-Life of Loving You?

Lyrically it talks about love (mainly gone wrong), politics (also going wrong), the young and the future (could go either way...). Musically it calls on the noisy spirits of all our influences including Wilco, The Church, the Go-Betweens, Beck and. Midnight Oil. 

The record title, Desire Lines, is partly a reference to the informal, unplanned pathways that people create despite the efforts of designers.

These lines typically cut across a planned route or area, often due to a more convenient or direct route and seemed like a good fit on a variety of levels for this record.

The song’s central message is a call to embrace the present moment as the only true opportunity for action and meaning. It rejects the notion of waiting for a promised tomorrow, which is unreliable ("No tomorrow’s promise, today’s the flame"), and urges the listener to act decisively in the present to shape their life. The "fire" of the moment represents the power and potential of now, encouraging a proactive, fearless approach to living despite the inevitability of time’s passage and life’s uncertainties.

Digital Echoes is a reimagining of the very first piece of music I ever wrote back in 1989, titled First Sound of Music. What began as a few simple notes on a keyboard over three decades ago has now evolved into something entirely new — a collaboration between human emotion and artificial intelligence.

On this remix, AI wrote the lyrics and produced the track, reshaping my original melody into a futuristic, dreamlike soundscape. The result is both nostalgic and forward-looking — a fusion of memory and machine, heart and hardware.

The song explores a young female songwriter’s creative awakening as she builds music with AI, blurring the line between inspiration and invention. With haunting synths & guitars, celestial textures, and lyrics that question the nature of creation itself, Digital Echoes asks: is it magic, or is it something more?

About

I’m Dean R. Chandler — a London based songwriter, recording artist, and storyteller. My music is rooted in a lifelong search for meaning, weaving together themes of love, loss, faith, alien contact, and humanity’s future.

My upcoming double concept album Human Odyssey (set for release in January 2027) is the culmination of decades of writing and reflection. It’s a narrative journey that begins with a search for God and ends with an encounter with extraterrestrial intelligence — exploring not only what it means to be human, but also where we might be heading as a species. Musically, it draws inspiration from the epic storytelling of Jeff Wayne’s War of the Worlds, the synth-driven edge of Gary Numan, and the emotional depth of artists like Tori Amos and Chris de Burgh.

I previously released Time Machine – Reflecting Shattered Dreams (2014) and continue to revisit my archive of songs written across 35 years, reimagining them with today’s tools and sounds. Some pieces remain intimate and acoustic, while others expand into dark rock, industrial, or orchestral landscapes — but all are connected by a focus on emotional honesty and cinematic storytelling.

Beyond music, I’m fascinated by the intersection of creativity and technology. I’ve been experimenting with AI-driven composition and production to bring old demos to life and to spark entirely new works. For me, these tools are not replacements for human artistry but extensions of it — ways of unlocking stories and emotions that otherwise might have remained hidden.

At its heart, my work is about connection: to the past, to the future, and to the unseen mysteries of existence. Music, for me, isn’t just entertainment — it’s a chronicle of transformation, a conversation between spirit, science, and sound.
