The DifferentSound Podcast #278 welcomes Mareena! Trends come and go, but some music is simply timeless. This is where Mareena’s focus as an artist lies. As a resident at Tresor and label owner at Unrush, she continues to leave her unmistakable mark as an artist. As a DJ she is chameleon, carefully stitching together immaculate and immersive sounds that will quickly turn any discerning dance floor into a sweaty rave. Lush ambient sets create a balance within Mareena's musical sphere, and one can immediately sense that she feels at home no matter the setting.  However, her career encompasses much more than just DJing. In the last few years, she has also emerged as an adept producer, with releases on Muzan Editions, Tresor, as well her own label, Unrush. These releases display the refinement of her production skills, where her dedication to modular synthesis has transpired into a palpable passion for discovering new sonic pathways. Unrush has grown too. With over 60 mixes and 4 compilations released to date, the series has expanded to include a broad family of artists and shows no signs of slowing down. All of these achievements have established Mareena as a powerful artistic and curatorial voice within the underground electronic music scene.

Dave Ellesmere began life in Southport, UK as a hardcore punk drummer in the venerable band Discharge, who have seen covers by none other than Metallica. Subsequently, he developed an affection for classic Detroit and Chicago styles of techno, and lists DJ performances at festivals like Awakenings, Welcome to the Future, Tomorrowland and Mysteryland. Dave is a producer that operates the outstanding Belief System record label and has two techno albums on Heiko Laux’s Kanzleramt, as well as releases on Sven Väth’s Cocoon and Radio Slave’s Rekids. In addition, he has also collaborated with 2000 and One on hit club tracks for 100% Pure, to having notable admirers such as Jeff Mills and DJ Rush. This exclusive mix is unsurprisingly a raunchy percussion workout with full-throttle, rolling grooves and interesting hook highlights brimming in energy. Reka Zalan is a Berlin-based Techno DJ and promoter, co-hosting the ://elements series at ://about blank, where she’s resident and part of the booking team. 

Her activities in the local music and club culture scene also include working at Hard Wax, one of Berlin's essential record store addresses. 

Reka's sound is a palpable blend of cosmic and driving Techno, combining deep, gloomy vibes and trippy elements as well as percussion-heavy, groovy and tooly facets. Besides her passion for Techno realms, she loves various forms of (UK) Bass music, Electro (Wave) or experimental beatless soundscapes. 

She also plays under the moniker No Life Signal, a B2B duo with ://elements colleague and DJ fellow THNTS. Since early 2023 now, she's been a member of the local residents team of well-known Berlin Tresor club. 

Furthermore she's part of the Coppi collective, a project space with weekly community-based studio sessions in an off-location between Friedrichshain and Lichtenberg.

Isabel Soto is a Venezuelan-born artist who spent over a decade living in Montreal, where she started her journey as a DJ and producer. She has recently relocated to Berlin, while maintaining her residency with the collective Arder back in Canada. Already making waves with her Berghain debut, she's keen to expand musical horizons for her solo project as well as for her label NYXII.

Her style represents hypnotic and deep sonic journeys characterized by pulsating rhythms and percussive beats, creating an atmospheric experience.

With a string of releases on esteemed labels such as Soma, Immaterial.Archives, Synergie, Second State, 01366, Duplicity, and her own imprint, Isabel has quickly gained recognition and support worldwide.
