Speedy J and Steve Rachmad join forces as Speedy & Steve for a four-track techno EP on Luke Slater's Mote-Evolver this February.

Dutch artists Speedy J and Steve Rachmad have long been defining the techno underground with seminal tunes on a range of influential labels. For their new release, the duo jammed in Speedy's studio for their new release, working the live results into four fresh and powerful new tracks, kicking off a new series of live collaborations on Luke Slater's Mote-Evolver.

The intense and textural 'Reddo' kicks off with industrial synth lines designed for maximum warehouse impact before 'Dabler Nine' brings its deep rolling drums and mind-melting synth lines late into the night. 'Right Well and Clean' has fresh, airy kick drums rolling beneath harsh and icy hi-hats before 'Rotor' closes the release in cosmic fashion with spiralling pads and intensely layered synths and drums.

Following a string of collaborative EPs throughout the years, Mote-Evolver boss Luke Slater and Ashley Burchett (Ø [Phase]) return under Roog Unit to Slater’s imprint, delivering another set of mind-bending, boundary-pushing techno tracks tried and tested in their back to back sets under the alias.

Leading the release, ‘Bash Box’ brings a high-energy stomper peppered with menacing kicks and siren-esque leads, coming in at a blistering 156bpm. ‘Don’t Let Go’ follows with tripped-out vocals and tweaked basslines making for a heads-down cut. On the flip, ‘Koox’ sees the duo reach for wonky, twinkling synths atop a fierce sizzling drum hook. ‘Sanity Regard’ takes the B2 spot, rounding out another stellar EP from two of techno’s most revered talents.

The releases arrives as part of Mote-Evolver’s new series of in-person artist collaborations, with each EP capturing the creative moment as it happens, with results aimed squarely at the dance floor. Each release has artwork combining one item from each artist, which means something to them, into one new image.

In ‘The Sonic Assassin’ sizzling, skittering shaker-hat combos sneak up while its distorted signals increase in intensity, culminating into a high-intensity finish. ‘The Drama’ then features wonky vocals and gorgeous psychedelic soundscapes, closing out this quality, tripped-out package with dancefloor energy found both late at night and the early mornings.

Dave Ellesmere began life in Southport, UK as a hardcore punk drummer in the venerable band Discharge, who have seen covers by none other than Metallica. Subsequently, he developed an affection for classic Detroit and Chicago styles of techno, and lists DJ performances at festivals like Awakenings, Welcome to the Future, Tomorrowland and Mysteryland. Dave is a producer that operates the outstanding Belief System record label and has two techno albums on Heiko Laux’s Kanzleramt, as well as releases on Sven Väth’s Cocoon and Radio Slave’s Rekids. In addition, he has also collaborated with 2000 and One on hit club tracks for 100% Pure, to having notable admirers such as Jeff Mills and DJ Rush. This exclusive mix is unsurprisingly a raunchy percussion workout with full-throttle, rolling grooves and interesting hook highlights brimming in energy.
