Following up her 2018 EP ‚Which One Of Us Is Me‘ on Figure, Lady Starlight once again tames her hardware for some wild, live and direct cuts. These four tracks of unprocessed, unadulterated machine techno are some of the freshest analog output available these days, with acidic undertones tinging the record in a slightly old school flavor.

Starlight still leads way in a highly condensed and to the point way of producing, where simplicity rules and basic elements carry all the tension necessary. Clever arrangement and little filter tweaks are all that‘s needed for maximum rave energy and reveal the hand of a true master of her craft.

Founded in 2000 by Spanish techno icon @cristianvarela, the now esteemed Black Codes Experiments imprint has, over the past two decades, forged itself a firm reputation as one of the most prestigious, forward-thinking labels on the international electronic music circuit.

Home to some of underground techno’s biggest hitters (Regis, Mark Broom, The Advent, Ken Ishii, Takaaki Itoh, Tensal, P.E.A.R.L and Arnaud Le Texier to name just a few) and often given the same reverence as labels such as Tresor, R&S and Music Man, what Cristian and his label partner Ian Axide have built over the past twenty years is nothing short of remarkable.

Now, as the label looks to continue this fine run of form into the new decade, Cristian’s long time label mate Ian Axide unveils his incredible new EP ‘Close To Hell’. A four-part package showcasing the very best in underground techno, Ian’s EP will be released on April 24. 

Best known for delivering highly experimental sounds and hypnotic atmospheres with a uniquely underground treatment, Black Codes represents a beacon of consistency and musical innovation as it continues to earn widespread international support from a growing legion of dedicated fans and techno followers the world over.

Straight from the confines of her chosen Berlin home, @ladystarlightnyc impresses with an update of her singular, machine-driven techno. Ranging from banging to introspective, this record shows the artist at her most versatile yet, pairing her signature bone-dry analog output with emotive atmospherics and playful vibrancy.
Starting out deep, A1 contrasts uptempo acid licks with grand layers of strings, followed by the slowly building, equally vibey A2. Panoramic washes create an ambiance of space, the elastic kick steadily holding down the floor until a late swash of percussion seals the deal.
The flip carries one of Starlight’s most abrasive moments, featuring rave-style sirens right out the gate, treated to some crazy live filtering with epic acidic effects. Mysterious grooves on the last track, its offbeat synth swaying an electric tension, restrained yet powerful.

Soma label heads Slam are back on home turf with another high pressure release, the Sense Of Purpose EP. The pairing of Stuart McMillan & Orde Meikle hit hard once again with 3 expertly crafted tracks that give a nod to the roots of the tougher side of Techno.

Opening track Capture harks to the unrelenting nature of early 2000s Techno. A sturdy blend of hammering percussive elements, backed by rebellious vocals make for a typically high octane track Slam. False maintains the pressure but has a more warped and hypnotic hook that adds even darker overtones. Episode closes out the EP and has a trademarked Slam groove element whilst still remaining rough and ready as added dubbed out atmospherics and pads play to the tracks deeper momentum.
