DeeJayBudd - RSE/Carhartt European Tour Competition Entry

The first in a serious of mixes using only tracks sampled through-out the history of Drum & Bass; Following on from those old Ultimate Breaks & Beats LPs from back in the day, sampled in Hip-Hop from, what is now known as the Golden Era!
The selection here is all Classic Hip-Hop only! Every track has been sampled in Jungle and DnB tunes since '91. In parts I've chopped up some of the breaks and samples to recreate classic sections of oldskool tracks. I welcome any spots / IDs etc.

Something Funky To Listen To

The first in a series of mixes taking you...
...Back Into Time!

This is and will continue to be a selection of my all time favourite Hardcore, Rave, Proto DnB tunes from 1991 - 1992. It was this era in music that got me into mixing and DJing. I was always fascinated how these tunes were put together, at a time when nothing like this had really been done. Sampling early house, Hip-Hop and electro tracks from the previous decade, these tracks pioneered what would become, in future years, Drum and Bass!
Listening to these tracks now I'm still astonished at how advanced they were, considering the equipment available at the time. Remember this was a time before the internet was used to connect with musicians over the world, a time before forums and blogs, a time before Ableton and laptop DJs; A time of innocence! 
I always add a special element of remixes or re-edits to my mixes, this one is no exception. I have re-edited the first few tracks into an oldskool classic mash-up and then added "What Has The Finest Done? (SoundCloud Edit)" to the mix later. 
I hope you will be taken Back Into Time and enjoy the trip as much as I have enjoyed selecting the tunes from my collection. Please contact me for track IDs etc, via the usual channels and feel free to link this on your blog or forum...

Passing Me By...

This one is from way back in 2005. A proper mash-up mix! From the chopped up samples in the intro, to the Straight Outta Compton remix, to my own various remixes and movie samples, there's something for everyone. Most of the mix was on 2 turntables, with the samples added in later. I've wanted to put this up here for ages, but only just had the chance... One for pumpin' out ya porch - Get some.

Jungle Ting

No excuses for not putting this here sooner, I had it up on MixCloud since 2011! Anyway, if you missed it, check it out now, it's been a while!

Kicking off with my Gangstarr remix/mash of DWYCK (heavy b-lines), it moves into my Gangstarr/Notorious BIG remix/mash of Nasty Boy, then gets heavier and deeper from there. 
You'll get some classic Golden Era Hip-Hop, some original samples, Psych and Library dusty breaks, along with live remixes, cuttin' and more. As always tracklist on request...

It's Not Just Hip-Hop

MIXED ON MY MOBILE: A new collection of mixes I am creating using the TraktorDJ app on my iPhone. These mixes are usually created whilst travelling on public transport or just out and about. I've only had the app for about a week, so I'm still getting used to it. 

To my Hip-Hop heads, I promise I'll drop some Classic Hip-Hop soon!

This volume was mixed after a pub session on Sunday. This has actually enhanced the use of effects and my tune selection! I wanted to go for some up to date remixes of classic old tunes,  there's a few original classics in here too. Definitely one for the original crew! The random cut-outs you might hear in this mix are actually down to bugs in the current release of TraktorDJ and not, I repeat, not down to dodgy mixing; It stopped recording too! It was and still is very annoying, sort it out Native Instruments!

I started collecting records around 1985 and DJing since 1991. I drop many different styles; Oldskool Hardcore, Drum & Bass, Reggae, Dancehall, Hip-Hop, Trip-Hop, Heavy Soul & Funk, Jazz, Rare Groove, Northern Soul, Psych, Dusty Breaks, Disco and a bit of House & UK Garage. 
I got into producing tunes back in 2004, after finally getting some kit together.
I always add an element of Oldskool flavour to my mixes, just so you know that I know where all this originated!
