Making his label debut with the lone interpretation of ‘Plans & Plants’ is Retza. 

Hailing from Australia but now calling the UK home, Retza has firmly etched his place in the deep and organic global movement. With well over a decade of production experience, the London resident has showcased his exotic sound via All Day I Dream, Balance Music, Kindisch, SATYA, Sound Avenue and his own Retza imprint, amongst others. Also an accomplished DJ, Retza has travelled the world showcasing his unique selections and exquisite programming skills, while also holding a weekly residency on London’s highly regarded Bloop Radio. 

Now, following a remix for YokoO’s SATYA imprint to end the year, Retza opens 2024 making his Refraction debut with a groovy rendition of ‘Plans & Plants’. Taking a more direct dancefloor approach, while maintaining the elusive spirit of the original, the Aussie native constructs a fluid rhythmic core, complemented with meticulously manicured percussion, acidic motifs and timely vocal fragments. It’s this amalgamation of sound which ultimately makes for a versatile and club-effective version; a brilliant re-imagination that’s likely to find favor with a broad range of DJs across the coming months.

Deep Site Recordings welcomes Dee Mac with two wicked new originals as well as remixes. “Do Your Thing” is an infectious tune that uses a harmonious keyboard refrain coupled with tight rhythms and a solid bassline. The second original track, “Seduction”, takes a deeper path with its sublime melodics, cascading pads, and metrical rhythms. DJ Funky T’s Seranade Mix of “Do Your Thing” rearranges the samples while utilizing a new arrangement and recapitulation of the main melody. The Couch Bastards Remix takes a techier approach to the proceedings by developing upon reiterating phrasing motifs from the original on top of smooth cadences. Addex takes “Seduction” for a remix spin with beautiful island style panache, taking the original deep out into an ocean sunset. Our 20th release on the label comes from long time DH Artist & Florida based gangster, Michael Rosa. It's been a long time since Rosa first showed up at our coldest Desert Hearts Festival to date as a wide-eyed 22 year old with little more than a T-Shirt, thinking he was in for a relaxing weekend in San Diego! But we've all witnessed Rosa's transformation into a world class producer as he steadily pumps out track after track of pure fire. Since the beginning of the label he's been one of our favorite producers and we couldn't be more stoked to release his 2nd EP on Desert Hearts Records
 
With this 4 track EP titled "Abu", we get to see the full spectrum of Michael's sound. From Minimal to Tech House to Funk & everything in between, there's something for everyone in this package. The EP only gets better with an ultra fat techie remix from Jay Tripwire to round the whole thing out. We know you're gonna dig this.

Release number fifteen on San Francisco’s Manjumasi revisits the Atish + Friends EP, with a diverse collection of remixes from a serious roster of producers. Leading the charge is Berlin’s Andre Lodemann, who delivers an interpretation of Atish and Mark Slee’s “Chameleon” in his classic style, combining intricate percussion and steadily building interwoven synth lines. With its deep pulsing bass texture, the result is a complex and heady track with a crescendo of energy. Next up is Nick Warren and Nicolas Rada, a powerhouse production duo whose version of “Chameleon” is a deep and chuggy journey through the track’s landscapes, slightly slowed down to really let the textures shine. The third remix on the package sees Brooklyn-based Brian Cid return to the label with a deep and driving interpretation of Atish and Tim Engelhardt’s “Bullfrog,” employing a hypnotic hang-drum riff to work in unison with the original’s stabby synth lines. Closing out the package are two versions of Atish and Bengal’s “Tortoise.” DoubtingThomas strips the lush track down to its bare elements, letting each element shine in a more minimal version well-suited for the quirky late-night dancefloors or the afterhours. Finally, label A&R rep Naveen G kicks up the energy and turns in a stormer, with hints of progressive energy, an insistent bassline and trippy psychedelic arpeggios.
