LUXXURY - Original Songs

LUXXURY (aka LA producer Blake Robin) is ready to start summer early this year with his new pool party friendly daytime disco jam 'I Need Somebody.’ A ground-up reworking of his previous single, 'Somebody Tonight' (also included on the new EP), the track dials down the sick, slap n pop bassline of its sister song, while revisiting Robin's  yearning falsetto vocal with a bouncy house beat and an infectiously chill bassline to underscore the beach friendly 70s Rhodes and Wurli keyboards and dubbed out synths.

I Need Somebody

LA producer LUXXURY (Blake Robin)’s “Alright EP” deconstructs the title track of his latest album. Arriving at a moment of transition, the song - performed, sung and fully mixed by Robin - is a minimal synthpop ode to optimism, with the message: “everything is gonna be alright.” In the classic tradition of Jamaican versioning, the tracks are not remixes but rather deconstructions and reductions of the original. For example, “Alright (Dub)” removes the synths from the original; while “Alright (Ambient)” isolates *only* the synths; and in classic 12” single form, “Alright (Drumcapella)” allows the listener to hear just the beat under the isolated vocal; while “Alright (Instrumental) trips away the vocals allowing the deep bass and shimmering synths to shine.

As LUXXURY puts it: “As a collector of multitrack stems, I enjoy hearing the soloed instruments and wanted to experiment with releasing my own material that way. These elements can certainly be used as DJ and remixer tools, but they also stand alone for a listener to enjoy and hear the song in a completely new way. And I love how, unlike remixes, nothing new has been added to the song, only taken away: these are all simply reductions of the original version.” The song itself a reworking of LUXXURY’s song  ‘..At Any Moment' (playlisted by Purple Disco Machine) - so these versions are versions of a version. You heard me.

Putting this EP together was such a great experience. I had the chance to acquaint Greg Packer and asked him to take care of a remix for me. As fucking cool as he is, he said yes. After that, I had the chance to have a few drinks with grandmaster guitarist Gabriel Covarubias and we recorded his Gibson SG. A single take, fifteen  minutes or so. A great drunken jam session. I feel the final product is delightful! And to top it all, Dave Allison's Editorial Records is releasing it.

Now four releases in, Razor-N-Tape Reserve continues to deliver the deepness with this EP from the Netherlands’ Junktion. Although a relative upstart on the scene, Junktion has been getting some serious heads nodding lately with releases on Sleazy Beats and Outplay, and the Hot & Bothered EP continues to define his dusty and organic sound. From the summery ease of the title track, to the fresh take on the oft-sampled 'I'm Wishin' to the discofied chugger 'Fling Cleaning' followed by the slow-burning 'Visions of You,' this EP is a beautiful listen from beginning to end. And the kids are gonna dig it too.

Mike Metro, LO’99, Benson, Terace & Dom Dolla have combined their individual studio powers to produce a god damn masterpiece. We had no idea how to tackle this from a label point of view so we thought what better excuse than to start the first ADM boyband… Introducing Da’bois! Long had these 5 young gents talked about getting together in a dark dingy room to create a twisted belter, it was looking bleak at first, as none of them were slightly prepared for the session, but after several hundred screwed up synth patches and shitty jokes - the canvas started to take shape, and what a fine shape it took!!!

Always on the scout for the freshest talent, Dirt Crew Recordings breaks into 2016 bringing together a couple of our more recent discoveries, Loz Goddard & Harry Wolfman for their all new ’Square Lane’ EP. Relative newcomer, from Manchester and London respectively, the pair in fact debuted on our label in 2015, on independent tracks ‘The Schrew’ from Harry as a collaboration with Laurence Guy, and Loz’s solo jam ‘That Same Thing’.

Straight up vibes on the groove stricken ‘Uncle Buck’, a no questions asked dance floor weapon and a testament to Loz & Harry’s ability to bring together the finest samples, synths, live percussive elements and a whole lot of soul. ’Problem Child’, gets a bit sleazier, vocal cuts and swirling keys ease us into a broken beat throw down in the break before thrusting us back to the mercy of the straight up four to the floor swing.

On the flip resident Dirt Crew Recordings producers and all round top blokes Brame & Hamo came to the table with a funked out version of ’Uncle Buck’, enlisting Brame’s brother to jam out the smooth stepping live bass for the remix.

Rounding out the pressing ’Neck of the Woods’ has a blissed out melodic quality, coasting along with a sunny energy and and just the right amount of cowbell, while the digital only offering, ‘Sundays’ is soulful and shaking in the deepest sense, those bass licks and key riffs definitely give us the feel of this very special day of the week.

Uniting on this EP Loz Goddard & Harry Wolfman are a sign of things to come in for Dirt Crew Recordings. We have a lot of huge plans in store for the year ahead already and look forward to a massive 2016 filled with music.

Blake Robin aka LUXXURY aka Baron von Luxxury has been making waves in the DJ/producer disco community over the past two years with his controversial edits. He was personally selected by Duran Duran's bassist and co-founder John Taylor to cover "Planet Earth". His "Hotel California" edit was a runaway smash, instantly attracting nearly 300,000+ Soundcloud listens and a great deal of press including a front page piece with the Wall Street Journal. “Hotel California” was later taken down everywhere due to a major internet kerfuffle, which served only to boost Luxxury's profile and add to his mystique. He received immediate support from Greg Wilson, Psychemagik, Ursula 1000, Junior Sanchez, Goldroom and hundreds more.

Today, LUXXURY shares his new single “Take It Slow” which is available now and will be released as part of the Hold On / Take It Slow single package on March 4 via Deep&Disco. The new songs are heavily steeped in classic West Coast sunshine and vintage disco vibes. Along with keyboardist/collaborator Billy Caruso (Laco$te, Corridor) the new Luxxury sound doubles down on '78 California: all shimmering Rhodes, dusty anti-EDM disco beats and funky bass lines peppered with blue eyed falsetto vocals provided by Robin himself.

LUXXURY - Take It Slow

Be Good 2 Me is a muscular, bass guitar-powered take on what happens when disco goes rock 'n' roll. LUXXURY explains: "‘Be Good 2 Me' was inspired by that 1979 moment where rock bands like Kiss, The Rolling Stones and Rod Stewart all made their token 'disco song.’ I was also inspired by  the melodic punk basslines of The Clash’s ‘The Magnificent Seven’ and Hot Chocolate’s ‘Every 1’s A Winner”, with its funk stomp and heroic electric guitar line. I love the intersection of disco, funk, rock and pop, all with a dash of post-punk ‘we can barely play our instruments’ attitude. But rather than Autotuning and Pro Tooling everything to perfection I like to leave a lot of rough edges intact, but with modern production to give it and updated dancefloor thump." Written and performed by Blake Robin with B-section assistance from Billy Caruso.
