"Viennese producer Gnischrew's occasional vinyl releases tend to be ultra-limited affairs, with his most recent outings being pressed as dubplates of which less than 50 copies exist. Mercifully, there are far more copies floating around of this Challenger Deep label debut, though as ever with the popular label demand may outstrip supply. A-side 'Chatter' is a bona-fide rib-cage rattler: an echo-laden slab of slow motion digi-dub that blurs the boundaries between authentic 21st century dub and the hazy, mind-altering sonics of deep dubstep. Those looking for a higher tempo and more obvious dancefloor potential should check the pitched-down deep dubstep flex of flipside 'Judgement', whose low-end pressure is undeniably heavy."

For this installment of our mix series we’ve got the ADM boys from Perth to whip us up a little halftime appraiser.

Acomply

Part of Perth’s thriving Drum & Bass scene in the early 2000s, come 2009 Acomply was heavily influenced by Kryptic Minds, notably their “One Of Us” release on Osiris Music. This initiated a transition into the 140 BPM range and the sounds found in Deep Dubstep. Never one to stand still, Acomply started local label After Dark Music [ADM] in 2015 due to the lack of reach for the sounds he was hearing. Since then, the label has burgeoned into a collective of unique artists, crafting a recognisable sound and drawing influences from all corners of the globe. This has translated into success on Juno Download, Beatport, and further opportunities to collaborate with artists like Mikrodot, 11th Hour, Chad Dubz, Wraz and Morning High who have all featured. When it comes to his sets, expect a blend of heavy low end and spacey dubbed out textures, some unreleased/forthcoming material, and generally forward thinking music.

Mauja

Has been DJ'ing since 2001, and producing music since 2010. Employed as a Senior Lecturer at SAE Institute in Perth, when not teaching Mauja is continually staying abreast of the latest technology and developments in electronic music, as well as being heavily involved in various musical projects. This includes with After Dark Music [ADM] as a label partner and mastering engineer. Influences include a wide variety of sounds and genres from a broad array of electronic music to various metal bands, hip hop, scratch DJ’s, film scores and any leftfield vinyl records collected over the years. Other sources of inspiration come from science fiction, graffiti/street art and anything in between. Expect moody vibes, and a schematic of tracks showcasing sound design, groove and heavy syncopation from his sets.

Med School proudly present the fascinating sounds of A.Fruit! Her ‘Obsession’ EP is loaded with a hybrid of dark moody sonics and curious grooves in a 160BPM body, that draws from the realms of jungle, juke, future bass, techno, halftime and beyond. The 5-track EP follows the Russian producer’s previous releases on Med School’s ‘New Blood’ series, Teklife, Hyperboloid, Sequel One Records and Black Marble Collective.

Opening track ‘Please, Arrive’ is a seamless stepper that boasts elements of epic electronica with a classic D+B kick. ‘Bright Spot’ is a futuristic, tight-knit jungle and juke mix, layered with a serene female vocal chop-up - a true treat for foot-workers everywhere.

A.Fruit displays the darker side of her musical finesse with ‘Music Lasts Forever’, a majestic head-nodder loaded with scattered drums that runs parallel with title track, ‘Obsession’. As for the final track? It’s her ‘Secret Trick’ of 160 and 130BPM fusion!

A.Fruit’s obsession for experimental bass music is her self-proclaimed ‘professional disease’ that already spans over a decade, following her degree in professional engineering and childhood love of songwriting. Outside of producing 160 beats, she creates sounds and music for a variety of PC games, worked in TV as a sound tech and provides digital mastering in her own home studio. Her eclectic DJ sets draw from her love of Exit Records, Astrophonica, Hyperdub, Planet Mu, Cosmic Bridge and many more.
