Matthias Meyer and Ryan Davis re-link for another superb outing on Watergate.

If you know, you know. Matthias Meyer and Ryan Davis make sweet music together, like Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie once made babes. Tunes that melt you into the floor and roll dancefloors from Tulum to Tblisi. Their debut collaboration ‚Hope‘ was a dawning highlight of 2017 and Beatport Deep House no.1, while ‚Love Letters from Sicily‘, was a lustrous late summer anthem, reinforcing their knack for the sublime.

Their latest opus ‚Crying Juno / Cafuné‘ begins where its predecessors left off, taking life after Matthias and Ryan exchanged ideas back and forth over a period of months before finally settling in the former’s Holzmarkt studio in Berlin to finish giving the tracks their form. Together they’ve crafted a masterful yin and yang between joy and melancholy. ‚Crying Juno‘ is the buoyant leader, propelled by an insistent groove and ‘80s synths, both bittersweet and undeniably uplifting. ‚Cafuné‘ continues with the orchestral themes that gave us ‚Hope‘, as sweeping strings and keys swell over a bed of delicate percussion, gradually building into a delicious groove.

Sweden’s Jonas Rathsman present’s “No Surprise EP”, the follow up to his debut on Mobilee “Draumzer”. 

The smooth and somewhat hypnotic “No Surprise” delivers a percussive depth that will delight dancefloors and listeners alike. The haunting vocal story sets the scene for the rest of the EP, a standout addition to the melodic landscape of 2020.

“Fading Memories” has a refreshing air of late night adventure and party spirit, much needed in these current times. The kind of track you might expect from an artist championed by Pete Tong and who has remixed the likes of Bob Moses, Disclosure, London Grammar, Sam Smith and more; having released on such stalwart labels as Dynamic, KX, Crosstown Rebels and his own ELEMENTS.

It’s not hard to imagine that “Uno” comes direct from his Gothenburg studio complex built using mostly repurposed wood from the forest, which was featured by Fact Magazine and DJ Mag. It invokes a sense of connection and deeper meaning, a sensuous soundscape reminiscent of the light through trees; bringing the EP to a special close.

Without seasons, time slips through our fingers more easily, and our experiences melt into one another.

And summer is a special season. A time of freedom, of joy, of coming together.

Summers are for journeys. Trips to new and exciting places. Adventures that play out under the heat of the sun, giving life to everything it touches. Exploration and experience, new sensations and new people.

It made sense, therefore, to start our musical journey through the four seasons in this most-cherished period of the year: the summer. 

Across the 10 tracks on this VA, we have collected a group of tracks that shimmer and buzz with the energy of long, brilliant nights under the stars, but which also capture the unhurried calm of a balmy, carefree summer's afternoon.

From a selection of our favourite artists and friends in the world, Seasons : Volume 1 brings together an extraordinarily talented group of musicians, each of whom has crafted a slice of summer in their track.
