German Brigante | DHI | Mix

Hailing from the sunny south of Spain, a historic cradle of vanguard artists, German Brigante native of Malaga makes his way on the basis of talent and effort. These two qualities, are linked directly in the results of what we hear if we attend carefully what German offer us. To this maxims, we must add a musical culture linked to 80-90’s pop and hip-hop that from early age have influenced German.

Talking in terms of talent German Brigante has achieved a distinctive and unmistakable sound easily recognizable, capable of making him stand out. We also want to emphasize effort, a quality that together with the innate talent that this artist has, becomes the sum that gives rise to the authenticity tangible in every of Brigante’s beats.

These qualities, polished in long studio journeys, plus the love that artist professes to the electro and break-beat sounds in the likes of Prodigy, are the ingredients that have helped to configure the sound palette of this producer. That is why top labels such as Dirtybird, Exploited or Diynamic have released the works of German Brigante. All of these tracks, composed with myriad of details placed in the right time at the ideal moment, received the support of artists such as Solomun or Dixon.

Moving forward with the productions that have marked the discography of this artist, we must highlight the icing in the cake, his album Bipolar. Released on Get Physical Music, this work is an exercise in maturity through the 10 songs that complete the LP.

At this point of career, German has reached a total freedom in terms of creation. The main result of this is his own record label, Manitox. A place conceived since its inception as the ideal platform, where not only is it shown in the most personal way possible, with productions such as 'Marimba'. This is also the place where he is giving the opportunity to newcomers to show their skills. Artists,  in addition to already established names, that we will surely hear about them in the future.

We can not overlook his figure behind the decks because we are in front of a DJ that has already visited the five continents. From USA to Australia, with stops in South Africa, in each of these performances he has made clear his unique style and his connection with the crowd. Among all the places he has visited, we can affirm with no hesitation that Argentina and Brazil have been the countries where he most connected to the audience

Patrice has a few words he would like to say... 

“Ahead of my GU42 Berlin album release on March 29th, I wanted to share a very special live set from the other side of the planet. Like Berlin, Rainbow Serpent is an anomaly on the rave map. This mix will be online for a very limited period only:

The best dance floor in the world. That’s the Market Stage of Rainbow Serpent Festival to me. The energy of the Rainbow tribe, the rabid vibe and feeling of unity are difficult to describe to anyone who has not been here. Simply standing on the dancefloor and experience this incredible sound system is one of life’s finer pleasures. I felt absolutely honoured to be trusted with the task to close the festival. Looking onto the dancefloor from the dj booth, the Market Stage painted a beautiful picture. The atmosphere was electric and love-drunk all day, Nick Warren and D-Nox brought their A-game.

This is my third year in a row playing here and the absolute highlight on my yearly calendar. In these years my wife and I have made friends for life here, which is why we release this mix with our beloved Wildwood crew. We have grown extremely fond of Australia as a country. This place has received us with open arms from day one and never fails to blow our minds in many different ways. It has become our second home.

3 QUESTIONS to MEES SALOMÉ:

Q: Talking about your mix. How did you meet the bass once and what do these tracks mean to you?

A: Meeting the bass happened over time, but it all came down to my older brother. He is an amazing musician and has always been a huge inspiration to me. I remember watching him producing music and thinking: “Wow that looks cool. One day I will be that cool”. He is the reason I downloaded my first music software. I wanted to dedicate the opening minutes to him with the title track of his debut album called ‘Wordless Poem for Fiona’. He is also the one that gifted me my first electronic album, an album by Kraak & Smaak. Think that is when I met the bass for the first time, I was 9 around the time. When I was 17 I switched from singing and playing the guitar and drum for producing. This eventually lead to me to applying for the Conservatory in Rotterdam as a producer a year later. Here I was making more breakbeat kind of music. The remix of ‘I Can’t Feel My Face’ is a track that I made during that time. But during this time I slowly started listening to more four-to-the-floor type tracks. I think that started with a pretty big obsession with Bonobo, which never went away. He still is one of my biggest examples in the electronic scene. Slowly my taste moved to the one and only Joris Voorn with his album ‘Nobody Knows’. I think this was my first real introduction to deep house music. After this I came in contact with the melodic geniuses Worakls and Bodzin. I decided to quit the conservatory around this time, because a professional career in music never felt as a possibility. Up until this point I had never made a single deep house or techno track. I clearly remember walking into the main stage tent at DGTL festival in Amsterdam. As soon as I enterend Adriatique dropped ‘Surge’ by Patrice Bäumel. I was so overwhelmed and inspired that the next day I made my very first techno track. This is when I really met the bass. With this first track I came in contact with Reinier Zonneveld and six months later my debut EP ‘Equivalence’ got released. I can say with confidence that ‘Surge’ changed my life. My second EP, ‘Ya Amar’, got released on Joris Voorns imprint Green and really launched my career. Within a year I went from meeting the bass to releasing on the imprint of one of my heroes. Who would have thought. Looking at all these tracks, there is one thing that they all have in common, which still influences all my tracks today, and that is melody and lots of emotions. Ending the set with one of the people that does it best: Ben Böhmer. I think music has the power to bring out the deepest emotions in people. Take you away for a moment, if you let it. It is a power that can be felt by every single person. To answer the question: these tracks mean everything to me. They lead me to where I am today and I couldn’t be more grateful. 

Q: Would you still play some of those tracks?

A: At home, all the time! The second part of the set I would definitely play out in DJ sets. 

Q: Which future Mees Salome projects are on the way? What can we expect later this year?

A: A lot! I have been working on a lot of new original music, talking to some of my favourite labels and artists. I’ve got a few great tours planned abroad. There also are some interesting and exciting plans for my podcast Distant in the making. So, lots of cool stuff coming!

On Saturday, February 29th, beneath a halo of shimmering lights and amidst a dizzying array of lasers in Great Hall, Rodriguez Jr. delivered his newest opus, featuring tracks from his new album Blisss, (debuting on April 24 on Mobilee) to an eager, captivated audience at Cityfox LIVE. The impending album name accurately portrayed the overall mood of the whole live set, a body of work that projected elation and sheer beauty upon listeners. Each sound meticulously crafted and placed to create a grandiose ambiance, at times orchestral in its arrangement, elicited the sense of being part of something bigger than oneself. Coupled with entrancing visuals, a frenetic circle of lights that extended into the audience, and various lasers, it seemed quite clear that our production and Rodriguez Jr.’s music were simply made for each other. 

Harkening back to this amazing 1-hour live set, easily some of Rodriguez Jr.’s best work yet, recreates the magic of the night in the mind’s eye without any difficulty. For those who were unable to attend - here is a chance to experience a sliver of what makes Cityfox LIVE so special. The epic melodies, vocals, and range of sounds - even touching upon some acid house notes - makes this set an aural feast.

Rodriguez Jr., hailing from Paris, France, has graced many Cityfox events past and it is always a pleasure to have him. One of the leading artists on the longstanding label Mobilee, Rodriguez Jr. has championed melodic house and techno and really refined its sound all the while remaining prolific in his productions and constantly performing spectacular live sets. Underspreche | DHI | Podcast

Underspreche are the Italian duo of Marika Della Torre and Simone Campanile. Together they produce music that deftly balances emotion and multiple world influences with a tougher edge dedicated to the dancefloor. It's easy to hear the diverse background both members have grown from in their music. Simone, a seasoned DJ and music collector for over 20 years also studied music theory with a particular emphasis on African and Indian methods of composition. Marika, raised on a diet of classical and opera music has always possessed a deep love for singing, writing and poetry. When the pair met over 10 years ago an immediate bond was formed and Underspreche was born.  Counting Keith McIvor of Optimo fame as an early admirer, the pair would begin to release music via his imprint Optimo Trax. First heard on a split 12, their EP Subterrenus would come in June of 2016 followed by their debut LP that December entitled "Invito Alla Danza”. Since then Underspreche have gone on to release music on a multitude of distinguished labels like Innervisions, Endless Flight, Correspondent and Permanent Vacation with their brand new EP entitled "Poet-Ease" dropping on Maeve this September.  For live performances Underspreche deliver what they call a hybrid set, a marriage of live synthesis and vocals with the backbone of DJing resulting in a unique and often mesmerizing experience. Always committed and honest in their approach to what they do, Underspreche are pure talent in today's electronic music landscape.

Kev Sheridan | DHI | Mix

Kev Sheridan is an Irish multi-instrumentalist currently residing in Berlin and releasing on maeve, the record label run by Mano Le Tough, Baikal and The Drifter. Classically trained on piano and a proficient drummer, Kev has played in a variety of bands over the years which helps to explain his diverse musical pallet. Having always held a long-standing love for electronic music, ignited by The Prodigy's 'Experience' at a very young age, he has slowly honed his craft and is now releasing the fruits of his labour to the world. From gossamer ambient through pulsating, heavy-hitting house, his releases deftly cut across a variegated electronic landscape while always remaining unequivocally “Kev.” Recent releases include the well-received EP 'It's Gonna Be Perfect' [maeve] and 'Exploding Bursts of Colour' [arch]. Kev's music has found its way into the top releases of 2020 on platforms such as Delayed (New York) and Torture the Artist (Germany), and featuring in record bags of DJs such as Sasha, Dixon, and &ME.
