Deep Inside Cruszial's Soul #8 - 2023

I had a recent request from an OG listener to bring back some of my 'classic' sets from the days I was part of the West Coast Collective (WCC). I still have dozens and dozens of these sets on my old hard drives and I am remastering them for Soundcloud and to broadcast on d3ep.com

Here is the first one that dates to 2004 (!). Don't let the date scare you cause the tracks are still as fresh as they were back then with artists like Mateo&Matos, Dweli (remixed by David Harnes), Fred Everything & Roy Davis JR, India. Miguel Migs, and many more great artists from those years. This whole vinyl set is also one of the first online broadcasts that I ever did (streaming in the RealAudio format at 64kps) on one of the first online radio stations from the 2000's - Planet Soul Network based in Toronto, Canada.

I will bring more of these sets and put them on a Soundcloud playlist that will be called 'From the Vault'. I hope you will enjoy this trip as much as I did when I recorded it 20 years ago. I have to say that I am not mad at my mixing from back then considering this was all vinyl and live (you can hear the crackles and pops at the beginning). Let me know what you think and if you are an OG do you still have some of these sets that I use to send out by mail and CDs to the heads?

It was the day George Michael died, it was the 25th of December. A few nights later I couldn't sleep, thinking about his amazing music. At 3am I put all my George Michael songs together, added some other songs and started spontaneously mixing this tribute to our beloved George Michael! Finally, in the morning, when everyone was having breakfast, I was done. So enjoy the man with the most beautiful voice who spread love all over the world, but the world lost him too soon. We will never forget you. This mix is for you.

Las fiestas Funky & Disco Classics (FUNKY BOX) de Jordi Carreras una de las fiestas más hedonistas, extravagantes y divertidas de Barcelona. Una noche transformadora que propone una vuelta a los días de gloria de la música funky, disco y house y que nos promete increíbles noches llenas de pasión, fantasía y buena música dejando de lado las modas del momento apostando por la calidad y la diversión. Noches inolvidables de puro Funky & Disco donde reina el ambiente setentero, con mucho estilo, glamour y la música más bailable.

La música de baile ha vivido épocas de gloria en el pasado, pero quizá, nunca como hasta ahora había alcanzado el reconocimiento no sólo popular (que siempre lo ha tenido), sino también del público melómano, de la prensa especializada, e incluso, de los aficionados al rock, tradicionalmente opuestos de forma frontal y visceral a la música de baile, habitualmente menospreciada y englobada bajo el reduccionista término de “música disco”, utilizado siempre de forma  despectiva. No hay que olvidar el famoso lema “Disco sucks” enarbolado en la época del punk. Paradójicamente, los grandes himnos de la era disco están siendo recuperados y reivindicados por algunos de sus antiguos detractores, al comprender que forman uno de los legados más exuberantes de la música de los setenta. Es el momento de devolver el honor que se merecen estos estilos musicales pasando por todos sus términos y divisiones que llevaron al dance a ser aclamado en la oscuridad y ahora en la popularidad. Después de más de 30 años con este música es hora de hacer balance y dar al público en un formato original, la posibilidad de volver a su juventud y los más jóvenes, aprender, para saber que lo que pasó para atender el presente del dance.    

Echemos a andar por primera vez en una dosis de "revival" Funky Disco y Funky house desde 2008 que fue testigo de su reubicación en las pistas de baile celestiales de Barcelona, donde siempre han culminado con gran éxito. Gustó a todo aquel que quisiera un puñado de temas buenos que se extendían desde un paraíso decadente y brillante apto para gente elegante.

Estas sesiones tienen como filosofía realizar un set al más puro estilo de los años ochenta y con Jordi Carreras como DeeJay. Se revive en la fiesta, las mezclas, la música, el calor de clásicos del dance en un club... junto con los momentos musicales muy espectaculares de los 70s y 80s. La fiestas de Jordi Carreras van dirigidas a un público que podrá bailar lo que nadie les ofrece actualmente y podrán contactar de nuevo con lo que les impulsó a ir a las discotecas en su época, ya que huyen despavoridos de lo que hoy se está pinchando en los clubs para los más jóvenes.  Es sin duda la fiesta auténtica y original de dance classics donde fue el primero en hacerlas en Barcelona.
