Looking back on yet another night at my favorite place to play in Chicago, Arbella. 
It's been a while since I've shared any of my sets, so why not take a ride with this hour (ish) of my warmup set from a few weeks ago! My pal Christian Voldstad was able to come out to NYC for the first time since the pandemic, which made this night extra special. My aim for this evening was to keep the tempo somewhat low and to create energy and movement through an array of more melodic and groovy tunes...some slightly dusty ;)

Josip Peša aka Joes is an electronic music DJ from Pula, Croatia. He is a member of the Croatian Collective Balance. When it comes to the expression and idea of his sets, you can expect an attractive melodically vibe accompanied by percussion. Joes played on popular fortresses and clubs like Fort Punta Christo (Slurp Festival), Fortress Kaštel, warming up. for Mihai Popoviciu and legendary club Fort Bourguignon where he was warming up the floor for Cristan Varela; He also played in clubs like Crkva (Rijeka), Klub Kotač (Pula), Moment Bar (Ljubljana, Slovenia). Joes is also a resident of the beach bar Lost Bay in Štinjan.

"When I was shortlisting records for this mix, I was drawn to the track Laika as an opening track. Laika is a tribute to the first dog sent into space orbit. The track sounds a bit like a journey into space and that got me thinking what that journey might sound like if it continued deeper into outer space. Coincidentally, the other records I had shortlisted seemed to kind of fit the idea, with titles like Astral Motion, Mooncat, and Destination 19. So I guess you can (loosely) think of this mix as a journey into inner or outer space."

My 50 minute mix of 10 tracks recorded especially for the LAS Festival 2k25 competition using a Pioneer DJM-1000 mixing console and two Denon SC6000 players, all recorded using the amazing RODE AI Micro audio recorder and an iPhone.

It was hard to imagine that Proxima Centauri B, a planet with a high civilization index, would one day become a savage mining colony. The once-thriving clan of Castafarian Keepers had been torn apart by internal strife. The names of influential leaders were erased from history in a series of purges, while the more compliant ones sided with the darkness. Yet, scattered across the boundless landscapes, there were still those who remained true to the ancient traditions.

— Are we sure this Kujo guy got it right? First the portal, then the memory module, and now the trip to here. This is madness, Doc!
— Sometimes, even I forget what I am truly after. Let’s just enjoy the view for now. We’ll find out everything soon enough.

A glimmer of teleportation shimmered in the twilight. Queen of the Smorings was never late. Approaching Spacelunch and Cat, she nodded warmly: “So, how do you like it here?” The conversation flowed as naturally as if no time had passed since their last meeting. It was now clear that the disappearance of Nomad had been an omen of what was to come. The guidance of the warrior queen sounded definite and convincing. Once she was done, a burlap pouch containing an unknown mixture appeared in her hand as if conjured out of thin air. “Take this. It will help in your upcoming encounter. May the force of the elements be with you.” With the sun slipping below the horizon, the gathering of the elders was about to begin. There wasn’t a second to lose.
