Bside Incoming: Rubi

Now based in Berlin, Rubi was recently running her own 'Out of Sight' event series in Yangon while teaching tech as a professor in Myanmar. As well as co-founding the Kommuna Tapes record label, founded in 2016 under the same name as the successful Barcelona event series, she is also a resident with RA+RE and Rings of Neptune.

Each one of her mixes is as cool and clinical as it is richly warm, packed full of new musical discoveries and much cherished records. We recorded two hours of our last set at Renate in Berlin last February. We played for a total of six hours, so here's the first couple. The crowd was very receptive, and we enjoyed it very much. Thank you to everyone who came out ❤️

HiToshi, a DJ and vinyl enthusiast from Helsinki, has quickly gained recognition in the local music scene over the past five years.With an eclectic vinyl collection and a fluid approach to DJing, he brings a unique blend of genres to his sets. In addition to his appearances at the Flow festival + holding a residency at the renowned club Kaiku, he contributes as a producer at IDA Radio Helsinki, supporting the local community from grassroots level. 

And what a classy mix did he provide! Smoothly shifting between raw house, disco and acid - it's safe to say HiToshi embodies the Helsinki music community's spirit, encouraging openness to diverse musical experiences on the dancefloor. Rightly so, he's gaining more and more international attention, an upcoming EU tour and appearance at HÖR being concrete examples of the quality of his craft.

Spincycle records presents the first imprint on their label - a two track EP from Mieka Du Franx and Mark Ambrose on 180g heavyweight vinyl.

After meeting at a gig in LA, Mieka and Mark hit the studio together and recorded these tracks in 2016. The result - two club ready house tracks with deep, spun out vocal takes. Side A, Wake Me Up (Dreaming Dub) leads the way with floating pads, warm echoing vocals and a dubbed out, pulsating bassline. Big after hours tip if you’re feeling a little playful. Side B, Wake Me Up comes in heavy with wonky deep house chords and Mark's signature syncopation, a treat for the later hours. 

We are honoured to present these works between two veterans of the electronic music scene. This record embodies both of the artists unwavering passion for underground music and fuses both their unique sonic aesthetics.
