HOT I love this entire mix 🤌🏽⭐️

LT is perhaps the most underrated producer out there right now. Releases on the likes of Rhythm Section and X-Kalay have cemented his place.

His music is deep and emotive, drawing upon influences from Techno, Hardgroove and IDM. It always carries a deeply pensive and euphoric undercurrent which plays out delicately on the dancefloor and makes for as much a listen as it does for a dance.

LT retains a low profile, lets the music very much do the talking and in this day and age, thats admirable.

This mix demonstrates a deep rooted understanding of electronic music, weaving between textures and tones to create a beautiful journey which encapsulates the listener in a fast paced world of dreamy soundscapes.

"Man’s search for meaning in the universe; what can be said of it! Having lived for a time disguising myself as one, I am only vaguely qualified to comment. But young adulthood working as a volunteer Field Investigator for the Mutual UFO Network. MUFON is a worldwide non-profit that tracks UFO sightings, looking for a signal in the noise.

Most of the reports left much to be desired – vague reporting that lacked any detail to strike my intuition as proof of life. But there was one person whom I encountered that gave me pause, and still does as I write this now. A humble blue-collar man from the town of Rotterdam, not twenty miles from my own home. I’ve always had a failproof intuition about people & their intentions, and I felt from the moment he opened his mouth that this man was telling the truth about his sighting. He also had actual footage: a pale orange light, slowly gliding across the sky. The light passes behind a church steeple in the foreground, and then appears on the other side, moving on into the horizon. Remember reader, that this was prior to the days of smartphone video and its editability – this was VHS tape! 

In the days that followed talking with him I noted an icy, dreadful feeling growing inside of me. It culminated not long after, when I attended a regression hypnotherapist’s presentation at the New York State MUFON Chapter Annual conference. As the good doctor recanted his portfolio of abductee clients and the strange experiences they reported, I became quite nauseous and my body went into an extreme state of shock. I excused myself from the conference, and later that night, I found myself in a state of nervous breakdown. Was *I* an abductee? Had I been a passenger inside of that pale orange light in the videocassette? I don’t know the answer, but a lifelong obsession about the travails of space travel has followed.

What would it actually be like to be inside of an extraterrestrial spacecraft. Cold and sterile? Cozy and warm? Would you feel inertia, or would you feel stasis? I continue to ruminate on the topic to this day. Here is a DJ mix that explores the matter. Of course, the only important part of a DJ mix is if it has groove, but I hope it also opens up strange new worlds to you!"

Q. How would you describe yourself?
A. a music maker with too much sincerity and a passion for sampling, film, and leftist politics

Q. What drew you to the music scene in the beginning and where do you hope to see it in the future?
A. Looking back at my life, I think everything from my birth led me on this path towards music. It was my first love. But as an only child, my experience with music growing up was always very solitary. I yearned to be part of a community radio station with Iikeminded music nerds, and it was working for a radio station eventually during my undergraduate that brought me toward DJing and rave culture. Back then I never thought I could do this full time, but once I got the chance to make a living doing this, I realized the scene was far from perfect, in fact it's very exploitative. I hope in the future we can find a way to fairly compensate music makers for the incredible gift of music they bestow upon the world, without becoming beholden to corrupt corporate & military interests. Artists can be hyper individualistic and self-interested, and I hope we can get better at looking out for each other instead of just our own paycheques.

Q. Tell us a little bit about this mix.
A. I wanted to present a different side of myself to international audiences on such a wonderful mix platform. Perhaps people outside of my home city of Toronto are less familiar with my downtempo sets, but it's been a significant part of my wheelhouse for years, and have gained even wider affection from me since I started doing a downtempo party in Toronto last year. Like I always say, 80-100bpm is the most natural tempo for extended human body movements. I also liked the idea of doing a mix that doesn't build in a predictable way, instead it waxes and wanes like the natural rhythm of life. So many of my favourite mixes build and release tension in a way that's very satisfying to listen to, the sounds intensify to a frenzy before disintegrating into nothingness. I wanted to play with that rise and fall and mix downtempo and dub with double time d&b in a non-linear way that is evocative of our most precious memories and tells stories we've only seen in dreams. Downtempo and dub also seemed like the perfect genres to play in the 100th mix for Juanita's, and in the lead up to my fav April holiday. :) I hope the listeners enjoy it.

aka-Sol is one of the multiple monikers of multidisciplinary artist Sol León. They are part of the Dripping collective in NY as well as in charge of the Acacia Baila label that focuses on global dance music informed by psychedelic encounters and the sensual nature of rhythm and sound. Their DJ sets are known to be expansive and dynamic, always defying linearity while maintaining the trance induced essence of the clubbing experience.

"Chicago native Justin Aulis Long discovered his fascination for uncanny music at an early age when his mother entrusted him with her record collection that spanned from UK punk to American dance. This  served as a gateway, stimulating his journey into the sonic vortex. As a child of Medusa’s on Sheffield, Long gained a higher level of musical education. His weekly pilgrimages to this venue’s all-ages hedonistic dance parties supplied a compelling musical concoction of acid house, UK bleep, industrial and new wave. Possessed by these unorthodox forms of music, Long purchased his first set of turntables and began to collect 12-inch singles from local record shops. Though his intentions were solely to pander to his musical appetite in the privacy of his bedroom, this acquisition proved to be the genesis of a voyage that continues to present him with new challenges that are met with an unforgiving dogmatic approach.

Long cut his teeth during the early 90’s at many of Chicagos Infamous DIY and underground warehouse raves. pulling selections from a variety of his musical influences and interests. Eventually graduating to take residencies at many of the cities established club venues and landing a residency at Smart Bar where he is currently the longest consecutive resident."
