Now, we love every record we bring you here on THUMP, but sometimes, just sometimes, we love them more than you could ever really know. This is one of those records. 

Originally released in 1984, Escape From New York's "Fire in My Heart" is post-disco classic, a perfect obscure slab of dancefloor heaven. Now set for reissue on Isle of Jura, we've got the world premiere of the thick and chewy dub. Get ready for the biggest bassline you've heard this decade. Oh, and then expect to hear it at every decent party you're going to this summer.

This one's a classic 32 years in the making...

Escape From New York - Fire In My Heart (Instrumental Dub)

Following a debut EP on Golf Channel in 2015, Autarkic aka Nadav Spiegel has risen in status alongside his close friends and collaborators Red Axes and Moscoman. His recent debut LP for Disco Halal has garnered critical acclaim. Spiegel clearly has a rare talent as a songwriter, crafting the kind of intelligent, left-field pop music that one usually has to look back to the avant-garde of the 1980s to find.  If things were more downtempo, experimental and psych rock on his first EPs, these tracks for Turbo point squarely at the dance-floor, and have been staples in the sets of not only Moscoman and Red Axes, but in the other rising stars of the underground Israeli scene around labels like Malka Tuti and Fortuna records, as well as the global groove empire developing around Turbo A&R Thomas Von Party’s Multi Culti. The night had drawn to a close and there was little noise left in the small basement. The reverb echoed loudly from the machine in the corner but it was not a sweet sound or tone but bitter and dull. The band had left the room some time ago but the crowd remained loyally attached to the stage - hoping and praying for the return of their heroes. Little did they in fact know that this was the end of times, the last dance and a farewell outing. Soon they would leave but not just yet, not now. 

The Golden Filter continue to delight and inspire, a duo with a sense of purpose and a formidable swagger. Optimo did very well indeed to snap them up and their music demonstrates supreme quality.

It’s a welcome change to see the dance music industry shift from a sausage fest to a decidedly more diverse scene of artists and DJs. As an A&R guy, it’s been a source of frustration that I haven’t signed more non-dude talent. In my defence, 95%+ of the demos I’ve gotten over the years have been from men or boys, but I’ve realized that perhaps following the example of an A&R hero like Matias Aguayo, I could do more to dig and encourage women to get more involved in the little community I build with my labels. With that in mind, I’ve got a few releases in the works with some incredible women and am happy to announce this EP today, on International Women’s Day, because not only does MISS REPRESENTED indeed check that gender box, she is a total original, a woman of experience and knowledge, she bucks all the trends and has a fearless, powerful voice. She’s not a kid with inflated instagram numbers and a manager, she’s someone who has lived her life in the dark corners of the music scene and has a story to tell. If there’s one thing dance music is guilty of, rightly or wrongly, it’s escapism, and a refusal to confront real issues and subjects. On those rare occasions where a dance track holds overt meaning it’s SO powerful and memorable, and while these aren’t conventional peak-time tracks, they’ve definitely got groove and they’ve got a message. I could go on and on, but without further ado, here’s a sneak preview of the B2 cut from the next release on my new label PARTY CENTRAL.

London based Brazilian artist Laima releases the 12” vinyl release of ‘Disco Pregnancy’. The release follows from her double-vinyl debut album ‘Home’, released by DEEWEE last November. ‘Home’ is a striking proposition. It’s a package which features two records that are designed to be played simultaneously: Laima’s vocal and synth tracks on the ‘Tonal’ disc alongside Iggor’s beats on the ‘Rhythmical’ record. By syncing the two records listeners are offered an unconventional way to experience the music.

The ‘Disco Pregnancy’ 12” is out now and for the first time features the combined Tonal + Rhythmical versions of album tracks ‘Disco Pregnancy’ and ‘Home’, all recorded, produced and mixed by Stephen & David Dewaele (Soulwax/2manydjs).

Over the last month, the music and events industry has entered unchartered territory due to the Covid-19 lockdown, and artists and online media have found themselves in a financially vulnerable position with much more time on their hands.

To help some of those artists, and provide Ransom Note with much-needed financial support, three weeks ago we reached out to some friends of the website with the challenge to make a track in collaboration with another producer, musician or vocalist, remotely, in 10 days. The result is ‘Pen Pals’: a compilation featuring 15 collaborations from 32 artists.

Due to the current situation we’ve increased royalties for all artists involved and, whilst the Covid-19 lockdown restrictions apply, accounting will be processed fortnightly. Profits from the compilation will also provide financial support for Ransom Note who have been heavily impacted by the halt of the events industry.
