This song is for anyone who is in a long distance relationship regardless of how (physically) close the other may be.  It is for those who feel something for another.  The other also feels this attachment.  But something is preventing them from turning this love into a physical relationship (marriage, children, gender…).  They see each other frequently.  Perhaps they are neighbors, co-workers, or spouses of friends.  They enjoy their time together but it is always at a distance.  Never to be consummated.  The first and third verse & choruses are in the Key of G.  The second verse & chorus is in the Key of F.

This is my little sister's fault; she asked me to do a lovely happy little Christmassy song for her.   Obviously, I immediately reached for my well-thumbed copy of “Chords of misery and despair for songs in the key of Dismal diminished” - and here we are.  Hope you enjoy it Anne - sing along, pet!  :)

This uplifting little Christmas minor blues is based on the melody from a classic old standard from the ‘30’s “Skin Game Blues” by Peg Leg Howell but using a fingerstyle arrangement by Steve James from his excellent “Fingerstyle Blues Songbook”.

I can't blame anyone else but me for the lyrics.  Not even my sister.

Bit of a departure from my usual style. Unfortunately we lost an old college friend to cancer late last year and I was thinking about that and those kind of friendships that endure despite time, life and geography meaning you don't see as much of each other as you used to, with of course a small goodbye to our good friend Gerry, Slán Abhaile!!
